Do companies or independants have to pay for kosher certification?

Yes as far as I know companies do pay for both. Last time I looked at a jar of Vegemite, it had both halal and kosher certification

Did it have a vegetarian label too as one on here is trying to tie Sanitarium product into it which is ridiculous.

Sanitarium have their own manufacturing entity to produce Sanitarium foods and there is no hidden levy attached to any of it.

Re: Four Corners tonight on Halal

Apparently Kosher in Australia is 90% self funded by the Jewish community and Halal is around zero.

Re: Four Corners tonight on Halal

not sure what you mean wayward as it's something I don't know much about but Kosher certification is paid for by manufacturers in the same way halal certification is

https://www.kosher.org.au/content/certification-process

A typical certification for a single facility will cost between $AU 1500 to $AU 3000, but this is dependent on the actual conditions of the certification as stipulated by the Rabbinic Board. Blanket certificates are generally only granted for a 12-month period.

As Kosher Australia is a not-for-profit organisation, charges are merely to cover costs

Re: Four Corners tonight on Halal

no, Kosher is only paid in part by companies, the two main certifiers are 90% funded by the Jewish Community.
See submission number 874 by the Executive Council of Australian Jewery.
Kosher is majority a user pays system that they have developed withing that religious community, Halal Certification is more a 'for profit' business structure.

"The revenue from certification fees paid by manufacturers supplying the general market is only about 10% of the overall revenue."

And...Sanitarium do not charge anybody, they manufacture and distribute all their own product.

The only entity making money out of the certifications is the Muslim community and many do not want to "donate" any money to that ideology.
