Four-Day Music Challenge — Songs referencing a Real Historical Figure

There were so many excellent songs posted here. It was such a pleasure to listen again to Neil Young's song about Cortéz, the evocative and sad "Starry, starry night", S&G's paeon to a great architect, Paul Kelly's rather topical Bradman, the gentle depth of Cohen's Joan of Arc, the David Bowie song for Bob Dylan, the wickedly satirical Mel Brooks offering... well, all of them. Every song here was interesting to listen to.

A point I'd like to make: this long-running thread is one of several that has given me something to hang onto in the dark nights when I am overcome with grief and loss. I can't even begin to tell you how many songs on these threads have been my musical  companions in the empty places when I find it especially difficult. My main musical love is classical, and I often find beautiful pieces that give me an emotional and spiritual embrace... but quirky, dark, bright, poppish, jazzy, experimental, weird or powerful modern songs are also unexpected friends at the times when I most need to be reminded of the presence of others, both past and present. Thank you to everyone here.

RESULTS:

The final two - both with 5 helpfuls - were nfs's Rasputin, and ambercat's I'm Henry VIII, I am. The latter is such a cute song, but the lyrics of Rasputin include such apposite references to the actual Rasputin (particularly the death - he just wouldn't die!).

trophy-gold_laie.gif  I chose Rasputin - just by a whisker. Over to nfs for the next Music Challenge.
