Freya Newman To Join The Greens

THE student who leaked details of Frances Abbott’s scholarship has been selected for a position with The Greens.

Freya Newman, 21, was successful in securing a paid internship in the office of Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon after the part-time position was advertised in November 2014.

“Following an extensive application process involving over 160 applicants and two rounds of interviews we offered the position to Freya,” Ms Rhiannon said.

“Freya was an outstanding applicant and we are very much looking forward to having her on board.”

She was charged and let off on a good behaviour bond, Am.

It was a chargeable offence and an invasion of privacy, the result of which was leaked to the press for the shaming of a Prime Minister and his daughter. No criminal conviction recorded... your opinion only.

You would think any political party would steer clear of employing anyone with such a background. Why? No criminal conviction recorded.

But the Greens snapped her up.

You would wonder what background deals were done there, and if they were similar to those that got Frances Abbott her job with the Whitehouse Institute. None. Freya has no barriers to being employed in any job.

She has no criminal conviction icy.... no barriers to getting a job... not anything remarkable about her getting one either.

 Nov 25,2014

On Tuesday at Downing Centre Local Court, Magistrate Teresa O'Sullivan imposed a two-year good behaviour bond on Ms Newman but elected not to record the conviction, meaning that Ms Newman will not have a permanent criminal record for the offence.

She was let off with no conviction recorded only due to her youth.

What is hard to understand about that? One minor misdemeanor as a young person (more likely to have poor judgement than a 40 yo - maybe) and you want her condemned as far as her future employment is concerned?

Did the magistrate say that.. due to her youth... or are those your words only?

Charges are irrelevant if no conviction is recorded. People get charged, go to court.. not all get convicted.

I've heard that even future prime ministers can be charged with far more serious offences and go on to have long public careers.

Criminal conviction or Not, she will have to declare she was CHARGED and got a GOOD BEHAVIOR BOND

on most VISA Applications if she travels overseas. The US have refused entry visas in the past just because

of the charge.

So she won't just walk into places like most people who haven't carried out criminal acts.

Couldn't resist as what's good for the goose...........

Did you say "You would think any political party would steer clear of employing anyone with such a background."?

  • Tony Abbott was charged with indecent assault. However, the charges were later dismissed.

  • Tony Abbott was charged with damaging public property by bending a street sign.

  • In 1976, while at University, Tony Abbott kicked in a glass panel door after a narrow defeat in the University Senate elections in 1976. Tony Abbott is alleged to have approached the person who defeated him, Barbara Ramjan, come as close to an inch from her nose and then punched the wall on either side of her head.

  • Lindsay Foyle, a former deputy editor of The Bulletin and a past president of the Australian Cartoonists’ Association, has revealed that Tony Abbott once threatened to punch him because of a disagreement over abortion (Lindsay took a pro-choice stance, Tony Abbott reportedly didn't like that stance).

  • Tony Abbott has admitted to punching Joe Hockey out cold sometime during the late 80's. At the time, Tony Abbott was "kind of a semi-player coach" for a rugby union team.

  • Tony Abbott once missed five key votes in Parliament - including the vote on the $42 billion stimulus package - because he was asleep in his office after having consumed too much alcohol.

Which political party would steer clear of employing anyone with such a background?  And a  Prime Minister no less. Says a lot about the political party don't you think?

Re: Freya Newman To Join The Greens

What's the major problem with what Freya did?

Is it that she targeted an Abbott?

Is it that she questioned the process of awarding a non-advertised, non-existant to other students scholarship?

Is it that she dared to step outside her box instead of protecting the rights to secrecy of underhand deals of the born to rulers?

It's all a bit puzzling.

She committed a criminal act and acted in collusion with the left wing rag Matilda.

She will regret it I'm sure,  she was under threat of conviction but was let off.

She should feel right at home with the ratbag greens. Good luck

you seem to get confused and puzzled a lot.

It's the fact that she hacked into someone else's email to gain personal information (which is a chargable offence) to pass on to to a publisher who she knew would use the information against the Prime Minister and his family.

Gets charged but walks away without conviction because the judge took into her account her youth and her future career.

Then after all that gets a job in POLITICS where there is constant investigation into spying and newsleaks and phone-bugging incidents.

The Greens obviously thought she was highly qualified for the job. She'll fit

She'll make a career for herself  alright. She'll fit right in.

She didn't hack Icyfroth. Sorry, but I can't abide untruths. She was charged with  leaking restricted data which is not hacking.
