So the Lord and Master has acute gout in his foot.
He is grumbling and grouching and and hurling orders at me. "make me breakfast, get me another coffee, get my pills, put another log on the fire" etc etc.
Does anyone have any remedies that may help? because if he keeps it up he's going to have a massive lump on the back of his head.

Katy, I remember cutting up a cardboard box to put over Mr F's knee so he could have blankets over him.

pimpy - short answer - all of the above - no coffee, no beer and yeast is a problem food, so no breads.
Gout is actually a form of arthritis. So grumpy must see Dr for appropriate meds.
Ok, so the answer isn't short, but he must go to the Dr for meds!!!!! Will fix him pronto

My OH had an acute gout attack quite a few years ago and he needed crutches and morphine! Seriously, it was that bad for him.
Then the nurse at the hospital bumped his leg with a chair and he just about passed out with the pain.
They gave him Colgout which he hated as it made him ill and gave him diarrhea but is the short term fix. He's been on Zyloprim for years with no further bad attacks. He avoids prawns and shellfish (well has them in moderation) and tinned fish like tuna and sardines. I think offal and some legumes can trigger it as well. Its not always the beer lol.

My son in law, had gout & the dr. said it was the worst he had ever seen, he prescribed meds for him and he had to rest the foot until it was completely better,
He has flare ups every so often and just uses the prescribed meds and they have worked wonders.
Dont know what caused his, he doesnt drink alcholol or eat shell flish, he is allergic to both.

My first husband had gout....doctors orders were no alcohol, cut out/down on coffee (he was a big coffee drinker so it nearly killed him to go without) and no spicy foods.
Worked a treat....the gout disappeared and now 40 years later only flares up if he breaks the diet rules.

Judging by Pimpy's absence.................. she must be run off her feet!
The OP says "get my pills" and "gout" so I suspect he has been to the Dr already...................... as gout is Dx by a blood test.
I thought that I had it but Dr ruled it out, after my blood results came back.

Hi Scarlet
Gout is very painful. Suggest Dr and blood test to be sure it's gout. Meds are great but I'd get some healing magnets if it flares up again.....use magnets straight away and you can usually head it off at the pass so to speak. Drink lots of water to assist in flushing out nasty crystals from blood vessels .......it's these sharp little pointedcrystals moving/scraping along the bones that causes the pain.
search for healing magnets. Ferrous magnets . Bi-polar magnets. DON"T USE IF PREGNANT or WEARING AN ELECTRONIC HEALTH DEVICE like a PACEMAKER Your chemist may have some or health food shop might know. You don't want the jewellery or expensive bands that you can wear on wrist with magnets encased i/side. If the product sounds expensive -it is! It's overpriced so don't spend your money on it. Buy local if u can Some chemists stock already 'sticky' magnets for headaches but you want much larger than the 'micro sticky dot' magnets. Seek and you will find!
You require 2 bi-polar magnets to treat gout. Important to place 1 magnet over worst pain with north facing side against pain area. Then 2nd magnet MUST BE PLACED SOUTH facing on opposite side of limb. For gout in big toe place 1st magnet north facing against top/nail side of affected big toe and 2nd magnet SOUTH facing against underneath/pad of same big toe. Use 'FIXOMUL TAPE' avail from Chemist to adhere. Don't buy cheap similar imported tape made in Bhina-it's carp. These opposite placed magnets will flush out crystals. Discomfort/slightly worse for about 10-20 mins then starts getting better-like a 'tingling or prickly' sensation (these are the crystals starting to migrate). Overnight he will notice a HUGE improvement. place a magnet sized piece of tape between magnet and skin to provide cushioning from edges of magnet
Magnetic sheeting (like for fridge calendars) is not strong enough ref. units of Gauss / Webers to treat bad gout.
Your Dr will think your mad, your pharmaceutical company will hate you, your chemist or health food shop may smile politely but your patient will be crying with happiness and gratitude in a very very short space of time
and stay off tomatoes and other acidic foods if got gout and in moderation rest of time.

A friend of mine gets gout in her foot every so often (as a side effect of lupus) and she cries in agony. It's heartbreaking to be with her when she has the pain.
I don't think the doctors have ver found medication that has worked for the amount of pain she has.
Your poor hubby.
