I'm sorry, it really isn't. Unlike most fairy tale, the OT is really brutal I wouldn't recommend any child to read and I have yet to work out the moral of the story in the NT???:|
The Bible is a collection of books, it is not just one book. Furthermore it contains legal texts, history and personal correspondence among other factual documentation and occurs in real places that do/did exist.
As for the moral of the "story" of the New Testament, is there one? You read about the life of Jesus and witness how a bunch of uneducated fisherman from the Roman Empire begin a movement that eventually takes over that Empire (Changing the world takes patience - perfect job for a fishermen, eh?). Then there is Paul's transformation from Christianity's chief prosecutor to it's chief promoter, all revealed through HIS very real and non fairy tale letters.
I think the entire collection of works and books encompasses many morals as each one is "reported", Pretty sure they (meaning all the Authors and those involved in it's translation or the correlation of these certain books) didn't just leave it all to the end to sum up in a final chapter.
But if you really want to find some moral of the story - look to The Wizard of Oz's "There's no place like home". Simply because the collection of works colloquially known as the Bible started at "The Beginning" in Genesis and concludes in Revelations after humankind has come full circle, right back where they started, just like Dorothy returning to Kansas after her amazing adventure.

That those who reject God will be without God. If thats what they want, whats the problem?
Not disagreeing with you here Meep - I just always thought that Jesus judged our soul at the time of death based on whether we led a particularly "holy life" (and thus getting our name in the "Book of Life", a mediocre one (into purgatory for a second shot at things when the Final Judgement occurred) or if we were really bad it was straight to hell, do not pass go. and bugger the $200 - ya don't even get a fire resistant suit!
Then in the Final Judgement it is God who checks out who is included in the "Book of life", who's on the "Maybe list" and who's on the naughty list and then it is God who decides/judges who'e soul get's to be reunited with their body in heaven, ready for everlasting and eternal life.
Never really thought about it until you wrote that, but I guess I always thought the really bad people were those who did reject God - (and no doubt the way they chose to live their life on Earth reflected this even if they didn't outright say it) - but then they did get the second shot at Heaven when they did recognize the errors of their ways and accept God into their lives, even if on their death bed (because God knows your true intentions iykwim - he knows if you're really sincere and really sorry)

So if you say if you do bad things you'll end up in Hell.
So if you do good things but reject God, where do you go?
Oops - I think I summed up what I "THINK" I was taught to believe in the above post - I wrote it before I saw yours.
In short, if you do good things according to the "principles of God" you haven't really rejected HIM (even if you say it out loud) so there's a chance at a second shot at Heaven. If you do the good things admitting you're doing it because of God then that's a Home Run, but if you really are a rotter - it's straight into the furnace for you.

:^O Sorry about that. No, it wasn't for you. Forgot to quote again, just as well, it probably would have taken the thread in another direction. Just ignore it. ;\

I have a question for you Bob. What do you think about the 'afterlife' according to some Buddhist teachings? Are you afraid you might end up in the different levels of hell according to the teachings of Buddha?

or is it a case of "I don't believe in it so it won't happen" ???

Forget it Bob. I've gone off topic. I will leave it for another time. Sorry:8}
(I am actually interested in what you think. Cat, can you start a Buddhist thread lol)

God is the Universal Source of All That Has Been All That Is All That Will.
I am comfortable with that description. The universe had to have a beginning and something had to bring it into existence, but what exactly is the nature of this 'God'? Why do we assume that this creative force is a sentient being that thinks and acts like a human being and displays a full range of distinctly human emotions - love, anger, vengeance, forgiveness etc.

It's how "man" explains what he doesn't yet understand.
