Government wants to pay you to switch off

Power bills: Why the Government wants to pay you to switch off this summer

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-11/power-scheme-offers-rewards-for-switching-off-in-peak-times/90...

i think this is a very bad idea.

i think that some older people who are struggling to pay power bills will take this offer up, and end up in hospital or dead.

its obviously going to be a scheme that the poorest would be most likely to go for, the unemployed, the elderly and the people on low incomes.

i doubt anyone 'well off' will switch of their airconditioners on a stinking hot day.

Re: Government wants to pay you to switch off

Years ago there were power restriction in Victoria.

More than the expected amount of folk did the right thing.

The operators at the Latrobe Valley power stations had a frantic time

sending the extra power through the grid interstate before it

caused damage to the workings at the power stations.

not sure i think everything is mals fault or that labor deserves to be elected again.

what i do believe is mal needs to grow a spine and stand up for his very publicly aknowledged beliefs.

and the liberals in south oz need some real alternative policies. not good when their leader goes on record saying under his plan we will all get a $300 drop in our power bills when in truth even if he does nothing we get $230 reduction.

not that believe we will be seeing any major falls in our power bills unless we do it ourselves, solar panels (which i forked out my own savings for) and battery (which i cant afford) and yes, after installing the panels my bill halved if not more, good investment.

if i had the money i would install a battery too.

i really dont have many gripes about jays govt (i know others have many) if i get sick i will be glad to have the new hospital to go to and not the old one even though the old one did a fantastic job. i'm not happy there are problems with the new hospital, things that should not be happening, like ramping STILL!

but then the libs were just going to paint the old hospital and redo the gardens and say, 'wow thats fixed all the bad plumbing and all the asbestos riddled buildings.

the libs need a damn plan, all i ever hear from them is whats wrong not a plan.

At the risk of losing my grumpy old man status I have to agree with all  of the highlighted bits.

S.A Labor have run the state into the ground. Admittedly they have a plan which is one step ahead of the Liberals, but the plan is to keep spending tax payers money on shiny things in the city which need ribbon cutting at the expense of the real generators of income including the regions. This is exemplified by the recent announcement that speed limits on eight major country highways are being reduced because there has not been any maintenance and the roads have become unsafe at normal speeds.

Unfortunately with Nick Xenephon throwing his hat into ring for the next state election, it looks like a certianty that we will have a Labor coalition and more of the same for the next four years. I was a strong supporter of Xenephon at federal level, but his entry back into state politics smacks of political opportunism.

Re: Government wants to pay you to switch off

the libs in SA are waiting for that election where we all vote for change, not because the libs are offering a better plan.

thats why they have been in oposition for soooo long.

remember the last time they were in power?

it needed the collapse of the state bank to put em in power.

and then what did they do?

they promised NOT to sell ETSA.

and what did they do?

yep, thats right.

as for speeds on country roads, i dont travel to adelaide very often but when i do i get agitated by the speeds others do.

not illeagle speeds, i'm quite happy to travel at the 100kph as marked.

its the nongs who decide they will travel at 85kph.

thats fine from Port Wakefield to adelaide, easy to pass on duel carriagway, but from wallaroo to Port Wakefield its single lane andulating with no passing areas. very hard to pass.

yes, i'd at least like some passing lanes installed along that road.

but as i said, dont go there very often so its only a bother at that time.

Re: Government wants to pay you to switch off

i'll just add, ive never voted liberal but have voted not for labor once or twice.

if the liberals want my vote they have to offer something that makes my life better than it is.

so far they never do.

with labor i know what i'm getting, same old same, nothing better nothing worse.

You may find it hard to believe, but I am a genuine swinging voter with no allegience to any party..........ITS TRUE !!!!....... Over the years I have voted for so many colours, my voting record looks like an advert for gay marriage     Smiley LOL

I have voted Liberal, Labor, Greens, Democrats ( remember them ) Nationals, Dignity for the Disabled and Xenephon team. It doesnt matter who you vote for, you still get a politician elected.........Smiley Sad

Re: Government wants to pay you to switch off

I was reading in the papers just yesterday that apparently there is 'great community support' for this idea & people are getting excited by the prospect of being paid to switch off, they just love the concept.

I am wondering who they surveyed. All I can say is no one ever has asked my opinion, on anything. Who are these people? I haven't met any.
