Watching a doco on this fabulous station that runs at 98% on time.
We could learn something from this station and the way it's operated. Reliable trains here is at an all time low!

Guns? What do they have to do with the topic? And I have never come across a shop selling guns in Melbourne, to saying ther aren't but one would think they are on every street corner according to that statement up there ↑
Unless relying on public transport on a daily basis to get you to work on time you can't appreciate the poor quailty and reliability of our trains. Waking in a morning to quickly check if they are running on time, which are cancelled, where buses are replacing them and having to allow an extra hour to get to work.....yes it happens. Thankfully my daughters are able to make up lost work time and have employers who are compassinate....they also have the same difficulties.

I agree with you I don't think the running times of our trains is bad, I travel from Berowra to Chatswood every week day and it is very rare I am late for work due to train issues. Like you said if there are any delays it is usually due to medical emergency, or bad weather bringing trees down or causing issue in the signal boxes.

Many Sydney train travellers in August experienced a nightmare afternoon journey home..

A lot of the money is being spent on new rolling stock which is needed, I am still catching trains that have no air con so are boiling in summer and cold in winter. Almost every weekend one line or another is closed for maintenance, this all costs money but also keeps the trains running on time.
The train lines do not only service Sydney Siders they travel all over NSW so if the transport in the City does not work then regional and rural users won't get public transport either. There are a lot of commuters that travel into Sydney from the Blue Mountains, South Coast and Newcastle everyday, I live in Berowra which is regional NSW my bus and train trip to work and back every day takes just over 2 hours other commuters spend 3 to 4 hours every day commuting so they need a reliable and comfortable way to travel.

I will be stepping onto the platform of GCS, in 30 days time. It cost around $85 Aus dollars, from Washington DC, which I think is really expensive.
I have also travelled on trains in India. The trains with all the people sitting on and hanging out of are local North India trains and are only like that for major public holidays and holy days, when people traditionally go back to their villages.
Otherwise, the trains in India are great. Although, never on time, like everything else in India.

But that's got nothing to do with the rail network does it? The same when wild weather in Sydney floods tracks and stations - again, how can we blame the system for this?
I was caught in that blackout and the problem the week before. I had to get off 4 stops early cause the trains just couldn't go any further. Yes I was 2 hours getting home on what was normally a 20mins trip but I got home on a bus organised pretty quickly by CityRail to deal with the chaos.
And yet you get passengers making comments like this in that article: "You just come to expect it. That's just Sydney trains."
Expect what? Some idiot cuts the wrong wire at Ausgrid blacking out half of Sydney including the trains and passengers like him blame CityRail for getting him home late? How ridiculous.
The announcements are always clear about why there are issues and the stations put up apology notices the next day even if it isn't their fault. Bus replace trains wherever and whenever there are know delays or during emergencies.
Al up, they do a good job.

PCT: "Singapore is another place we could learn a lot from as well."
Such as the political system which has been totally dominated by the de-facto one party state (PAP) since 1959!
TS: ".....There are times when there are no trains at all....."So TS, what area (train service) are you refering to, as I do not believe that statement, and I would like to check the records.

I think the reference was to train services?
You don't believe her? I am sure she doesn't care but no one asked you to believe it.
Many people have genuine complaints about transport services................ I have none but then, I rarely use it. It does not mean others don't.............
