Grand Central Station.....

Watching a doco on this fabulous station that runs at 98% on time.

We could learn something from this station and the way it's operated. Reliable trains here is at an all time low!

Grand Central Station.....

No one is asking us to learn about guns, the topic is public transport services.

Weird comments.

I guess as you work from home, you don't catch public transport/trains.

Grand Central Station.....

I liked that video Spot, thanks.

When I said..."Grand central connects to trains heading everywhere in the US."...maybe I should have said you might have to transfer along the way. Depending on the time I take a train in I might have to transfer at Jamaica station...then Manhatten.

To go from Grand Central to LA....

Leave New York Penn Station at 3:55 PM aboard Amtrak Train #41, the Lake Shore Limited, arriving in Chicago at 9:45 AM, the next day.
Spend the day in Chicago, and leave again at 3:15 PM aboard Amtrak Train #3, the Southwest Chief, arriving Los Angeles 8:15 AM, two days later. This trip costs appr. $193 one-way.

And if anyone thinks they have it bad....you could try a train in India...it'll give you a whole new appreciation for your own transit system.

Sorry for the confusion....I just mixed up Penn station and GCS. It's been awhile since I've taken the train in. It's worth the money to not spend all the time it takes to get to the station, park (and hope your car doesn't get broken into), then get there and take a taxi anyway. So if going in for fun I'll take a taxi, for work...I drive in.

A short walk from Penn to a subway...to grand central (most of that is underground...except the short walk)

I always wondered why Penn doesn't connect to GC. In looking for that answer I read they were built by rivals...Vanderbuilt being one. The new tunnels I mentioned earlier....when finished would be able to take me directly to Grand Central.

Interesting link...the nazis had planned to sabotage GC, but were caught on Long Island (and there was a surprise waiting for them if they made it). Roosevelt had a secret line (track 61). They should fix it up for the Mayors to use.

Pic above shows the new line built..
