Totally agree, if you a meant to be staying at home, why do you need to attend a hairdresser? Surely people aren't that vain at a time like this?

Icy - do you understand ' pandemic '.
It is so contagious - left as you seem to want to imply - everyone will get it - some will get over it - some won't.
The idea is to stop it in it's tracks.
Take a look at the statistics - it is not only the seniors - it is our young also.
What would the economy do if half the workforce were down - down for the count.
Far worse than the few months anticipated by trying to halt to whole stem of it.
Thank goodness we live in a time of technology - where those that can - work in their PJ's.

I think everyone "bats an eyelid" Icy, they really do, about known illnesses that have plagued humanity since time began; it's always been on the planet, and every family suffers in every generation one way or the other.
It's not about disease comparisons right now in my opinion. The here and now with this virus crisis is that as yet, it is untreatable and rampaging around the world randomly knocking down each country and people as it goes.
The best the world can hope for at the moment is a vaccine (which will happen) and stronger immune systems for the world's people.
Medicine for known illnesses has drastically improved, but sometimes something like the coronavirus falls through the cracks and presents yet another frightening challenge for the world. I believe it will be defeated though ultimately and we'll get back on our feet.

when people throw up italy or now spain as examples of this virus being crazy scarey i say,
but italy was a basket case before the virus, i expect spain too.
here we have a pretty darn good public hospital sytem quite well paid for by the medicare levy.
it could be better.
lets just see how the great USA manages with their user pays system.
as you said, for all the yelling our little old system has coped pretty well
just 14 dead till now.
the govt should have acted faster with closing borders but ya cant turn back time.
it is what it is.
we now know we were under prepared for something like this.
hopefully we learn from it
not all enemies arrive on boats carrying guns
we are spending billions on subs and tanks ect
its medical stuff we ought to be investing in

So, did you go to the hairdresser's, Icy?

"But bring Australia to a standstill over it?
Get a grip!"
Unfortunately Icy, yes, not just Australia but every country understands how this infection is causing a 'standstill' .. if you look at those countries more seriously infected than Australia is right now, perhaps that will help bring perspective and clarity to what needs to be done (rightly or wrongly) to bring this dreadful virus under control.
It might be helpful for you to email Governments of those countries to "get a grip" and see what their response is to you as they work to contain the virus and protect their citizens?

@icyfroth wrote:So far, 14 ppl in Aus have died of the virus.
All due respect to the deceased and their families.

You've made some strange statements over time but none as weird as that.
That figure of 14 will quickly escalate into the hundreds or more if it's not brought under some sort of control
quickly which is not happening at present thanks to stupidity.
Our cases are still rising and so will the death toll.
Anyone in the "danger" brackets should be home and not go anywhere to reduce that toll.
The ONLY way to stop the spread is to stay home and to socially isolate but a lot of Aussies are obviously to
stupid to think that way and that's what your statement says and it's that sort of mentality that will allow
this virus to continue to kill more Aussies over a much longer period than if everyone simply did the right things.

I understand "pandemic'. I understand Ciovid 19 ishighly contagious. I understand many may geit it., and emerge with an immunity to it.
A large percentage will survive, a small percentage won't.
Is it really necessary to close down world economies, deprive ppl of their livelihood and liberty, for a small percentage of humal lives lost?
For instance, Many more thousands, tens of thousands, lives are lost due to abortion in the guise of "family planning", yet this is celebrated as a victory for women's liberation and population control, fgs.
Time to get a perspective, ppl..

Yes the disease is rampaging. Highly contagious, but not deadly in percentage of those infected.
The cure is more deadly than the disease, in this instance.

Yes, and I'm still alive, as is my hairdresser.
However, I will still wash my hands and sanitise, keep a safe distance.
