Halal Choices..... are you concerned with the halal slaughter of animals such as beef, lamb and poultry.
To be halal certified the animal must be facing Mecca, have its throat cut while still alive and then ritually sacrificed by a Muslim who recites a prayer dedicating the slaughter to Allah.
Because the animals must be slaughtered alive, stun guns are often not an option as they can kill an animal before the heart pumps out all the blood.

Do you read the lables to see whats HALAL or not HALAL Do you purchase HALAL products or not?

Interesting youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mSP47FAtn6U
The presenter is Kirralie Smith, an average Aussie housewife, who does the weekly grocery shopping.
Ms Smith became aware, then alarmed, about the Islamic halal certification on so many of her shopping list items. She looked for a list of halal certified foods so she could make informed choices about what to buy and what to avoid.
There was no such list, yet so many supermarket products were stamped 'halal certified'.
Ms Smith started to do her own investigation, calling supermarket chains, grocery producers - even the halal certifiers - all so she could be better informed when she went to do her shopping.
She has personally contacted over 500 companies to determine their halal certification status.
What she discovered was bigger than big.
Kirralie Smith is the founder and director of HalalChoices. Kirralie holds a BA in Theology and lives with her family in coastal New South Wales. What started as an attempt to put together a shopping list for her family led to two years of research into halal certification schemes in Australia; as well as our most comprehensive resource concerning these tax-like schemes now imposed on the majority of our food products.

I would like to see some links that actually prove what they are claiming in that petition, before I signed something like that, although, I suppose people who don't research for themselves will just do it mindlessly.

I didn't suggest anyone was forcing me, nor that you didn't do research.
It is merely my opinion of the petition.
How can anyone provide services that they can't charge for? People have to be paid for the work they do in Australia. How will people who do require Halal identified food know whether it is or not?

Interesting link DDB. I wonder what Tony Abbott proposes to do with Pickering when his ban on 'hate preachers" comes into effect.

I won't eat Halal either UFO..... it tells me those foods have a mark up on them that I'm not interested in paying.
If companies choose to display the halal certification to appeal to the minority....,they will lose the majority.
If companies are being "forced" to pay...... it's a sad day in Australia.
Dick Smith refused to pay and has written about it....,Good on ya Dick!...you have my support!

Nobody is FORCED to pay.
Companies that put a sticker on their products are doing it for commercial reasons. They are not doing it because Muslims told them too or because it is the law to label product halal.
Muslims know what products are halal or not. They always have. And nowadays there are plenty of websites that gives them lists with lost of product.
In regards to Dick Smith products. Dick Smith issued a statement not because he was being hounded by Muslims or by halal certifications. He made it clear (on his FB page) that he was continually being asked his opinion and being asked to respond to the issue of halal certification. So he issued a nonbiased statement on the DS website basically saying his company cannot afford to spend money on any marketing outside of issues that affect his product directly. Interestingly, Larry Pickering repeated but reworded the DS official statement on his own blog to give it a pro-Christian slant and this is the statement picked up by anti-muslim websites across the country.
