Halal Choices..... are you concerned with the halal slaughter of animals such as beef, lamb and poultry.
To be halal certified the animal must be facing Mecca, have its throat cut while still alive and then ritually sacrificed by a Muslim who recites a prayer dedicating the slaughter to Allah.
Because the animals must be slaughtered alive, stun guns are often not an option as they can kill an animal before the heart pumps out all the blood.

Interesting youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mSP47FAtn6U
The presenter is Kirralie Smith, an average Aussie housewife, who does the weekly grocery shopping.
Ms Smith became aware, then alarmed, about the Islamic halal certification on so many of her shopping list items. She looked for a list of halal certified foods so she could make informed choices about what to buy and what to avoid.
There was no such list, yet so many supermarket products were stamped 'halal certified'.
Ms Smith started to do her own investigation, calling supermarket chains, grocery producers - even the halal certifiers - all so she could be better informed when she went to do her shopping.
She has personally contacted over 500 companies to determine their halal certification status.
What she discovered was bigger than big.
Kirralie Smith is the founder and director of HalalChoices. Kirralie holds a BA in Theology and lives with her family in coastal New South Wales. What started as an attempt to put together a shopping list for her family led to two years of research into halal certification schemes in Australia; as well as our most comprehensive resource concerning these tax-like schemes now imposed on the majority of our food products.

I think picksickering is telling fibs (shock), from the Woolworths website - you can't return opened food products - I knew this but thought i should check, the whole story is a crock. Interesting site "christian" news...lol...not even the thoroughly right wing australian christian lobby supports this religious bigotry campaign. If picksickering had of carried on as he describes, security would have been called and he would have been escorted out.
I have changed my mind and no longer want an item I have purchased. Can I return it?
If you no longer want a product you purchased from a Woolworths Supermarket, take your item to your nearest store unopened, in its original packaging and with a clear proof of purchase and we will cheerfully refund the purchase price or exchange the product.

if you ever notice a pricing error while your shopping is being scanned, don't pull them up on it to correct.
pay for your purchases, then go to the service desk and show them the error. if it is a mistake they will refund your money and give you the item free.
this is Coles and Woolworths. they both abide by the Australian scanning Code of conduct.
if you do it before you have paid at the checkout the price is just adjusted.
my best refund to date is $32 for the dogs worming tablets

I couldn't do that.

I have done that. Noticed the scan price is higher than the shelf price after I have paid, take the docket to service desk and got the product free and refund of the price what I paid for it.
Mostly < $5 though.
I do realise if you tell the checkout operator before paying that the price is wrong, they get someone to check it and then they adjust it.
Used to happen a lot at my local town WW... don't buy much there now.

Yes, have had the item free if not noticed at checkout first............ but usually I check before paying, as I don't really have time to wait in another line to get the adjustment made.
I certainly wouldn't do it deliberately to get the item for free.

So are Muslims now celebrating Christian and Pagan festivals?
No, they are buying chocolate bunnies; nd they are doing it just like we do - because their kids have seen them in the shops and want them. How many kids - or adults, for that matter- do you reckon could tell you the significence of either Easter Eggs or Easter Bunnies?

To me its an indicator of integration. The point you make about pagan festivals is a very good one, it also shows a less fundemental or legalistic approach to a faith. the existence of the eggs in itself is a clear sign that the mainstream is rather moderate.
