Handy to know-how to make mask

If you cannot buy one, you can make one.  Apparently, in the USA even doctors use home made ones if they cannot get supply of the real thing.  Not the best, but better than nothing.

Lurks, I'd give you 50 million kudos for that one if I could.

It's what I've been spouting at people, especially about the gloves.   Idiots, all of 'em.

There is more and more evidence that  countries that introuced compulsory mask wearing are doing considerably better; of course, there are oher factors, but mask is something that we have control off. As well as sanitizing our kitchen benches, door handles, steering wheel and other spots that we are likely to touch.

I hope that the "nurse" Nancy in NOT in our hopspital.

This mask thing; don't doctors wear them for self protection also?

Joz, it depends on the procedures they are carrying out. Doctors and nurses wear masks and sometimes goggles during surgery or when treating wounds. This is to minimize the risk of them transmitting bugs to the patients, but more so to protect them from bigger particles, like blood, pus etc. Of course they can also wear masks when coming into contact with patients who are infected with a serious bug. But doctors and nurses wear specific masks which are designed for specific protection. And they follow strict rules regarding the re-use or discarding of masks.

What is the make and model of this specific mask that actually protects you? I think it would be a handy item (s) to have

Say when venturing out to the shopping centre

Signatures suck.

Masks don't protect the wearer. They protect others from the wearer.

That is why the health authorities don't recommend that healthy people wear them.

Joz, the WHO and Aust. Govt. Department of Heath continue to say healthy people do not need to wear masks because there is little evidence to support their protective value. However, things could change for any of us down the track and I think it would be smart to have some in the household. Both WHO and the DoH speak about 'surgical masks' for more vulnerable people. Which make and model of surgical mask depends upon which company makes them. More importantly, you would probably be very lucky to buy 'genuine' surgical masks anywhere at the moment. The below links may help because they are from reliable sources. Both the WHO and DoH continue to say that hand washing and keeping one's distance are far more important than wearing a surgical mask.

But people are still stripping shelves of toilet paper, which there won't be any greater need of even if they catch it.

I long ago gave up trying to understand the intelligence, or lack thereof, of the average person.
