WOW, I thought the mediscare campaign was pretty low to start with, but this takes it to a new level. The ironic part of all of this is that Labour itself introduced the freeze on increases in bulk billing rebates to doctors. The Liberals are simply continuing with a Labour policy.
While continuing the policy at a time when there is preasure on consultation fees is regretable, for Labour to be running a massive scare campaign based on the Liberals extending one of Labours own policies, while not declaring it was Labour that introduced it, seems extremly dishonest.
No wonder voters are turning to independents in droves.
Scare campaigns only work when they reinforce or add to what is already known.
Within weeks of its election in 2013 the Coalition entertained a proposal from a former advisor to Tony Abbott as health minister to end free visits to the doctor by requiring a mandatory co-payment of $6. Anyone who didn't like it would be invited to take out private health gap insurance.
Its Commission of Audit recommended a co-payment of $15 per visit and $5 per concession card holder, and then its first budget announced that "previously bulk-billed patients can expect to contribute $7 towards to cost of standard consultations." Medicare Rebates would be cut by $5 and bulk billing incentives would "only be paid to providers when they collect the $7 patient contribution". It encouraged public hospitals to charge public patients who walked in off the street in order to stem the leakage from doctors.Seven months later Abbott dumped the $7 co-payment and replaced it with a $5 co-payment, all of which was to come from doctors, also abandoning that a few months later. Then he announced plans to slash the Medicare Rebate for short visits from $37.05 to $16.95, also abandoning that a few weeks later. In his second budget he extended an existing one-year freeze on the Medicare Rebates by a further five years to 2020. By then doctors incomes would have fallen 15 per cent relative to other incomes unless they abandoned bulk billing.
It must really irk you that your fellow Liberals scare campaigns were about effective as a candle in a hurricane.

It takes time to rub out all the pencil marks and change them when there are so many to do
I really hope that remark is tongue in cheek.
ummm do you realy trust them after all the lies and cheating, I know I dont and I use pen.
The only reason the AEC provides pencils instead of pens is that the pens were always stolen within the first hour of the booths being open. Nothing wrong with using your own pen. That is what most postal voters would use anyway.
Interesting story, last election I was sent aplication for postal vote which I duly completed, forms arrived with a pre addressed envelope, but not the AEC address, it was the local Lib office. some months latter myself and OH got a please explain as to why we didnt vote.
It is standard practice for the candidates to send out applications for postal votes....you return it to them and they lodge them in bulk. Obviously someone made a boo boo and did not lodge the applications. If you did not get the voting papers why did you not follow it up? The completed votes go directly to the AEC.
I used to get an application form from both parties and used whichever arrived first. The last two years I have been able to lodge on line direct to the AEC. I applied on a Sunday and received the papers on Tuesday.
Only reason I can think off is that because we didnt vote for the dodgy party our votes were amongst the 10s of thousands that disapeared in SA that election.
As above, you only applied for a postal vote....you did not actually receive the voting forms and lodge them so there was no vote to go missing.
This year the same thing happened with the aplications forms, they were filled out and returned but this time the forms never turned up.
Did you ring up to fin out what happened to the forms?
And no I dont trust them

Love the analogy of a candle in a hurricane,
But to respond to your comment. No it doesn't irk me at all. I personally think scare campaigns based on lies by either party are bottom of the barrel politics. They do voters and the entire political system a dis-service.
As your Labour set piece indicates, the Liberals dumped their unfair medicare payment proposals, then they dumped Abbot as their leader. I doubt that either will be missed.
Yes the Liberals have continued with Labours freeze on indexation of medicare rebates. This was the only factual thing I could see from Labours mediscare campaign. It just seemed pretty hypocritical to me that Labour would condemn the policy when it was Labour that introduced it.
Just more gutter politics that doesn't really serve anyone well.

"Children Overboard" served John Howard pretty well though, didn't it? But perhaps that wasn't a lie, just a terminological inexactitude.

Self inflicted wound.
exactly, when she did the deal to remain in government i was pulling my hair out. don't do it i thought. but she/labor did and the rest is now history.
btw, i have allways voted labor, but this time i put my X next to Mr X. as i'm in Grey south oz i knew labor had no hope but the polls were showing Mr X was looming as the one who might just knock the libs off. looks like he will too, fingers crossed.
will it be a good move, dont know, but cant be worse than having a 'yes' man in the seat.
Thats the beauty of democracy; you are free to vote for the person or party of your choice.

Did it ? I suspect once people began to realise children overboard was a big con, it was the beginning of the end for Howard. He came to politics as so many others from both sides have, with good intentions and a commitment to public service. He left being remembered as a Prime Minister who lied to the public to gain a bit of cheap political milage.
More gutter politics that does not serve Australians well.

i believe the next election you will be given what looks like a toilet roll. there will be special roll holders in the booths and a huge box of pencils so you can mark your choices from 1 to oblivion.
please allow 2 to 3 days to cast your vote not counting a day or two waiting in line.
no food can be brought it must be purchased from the onsite sellers, a 250ml bottle of water will be $20 you can guess the prices of actual food.
rember its all jobs and growth.

If you make a mistake you just take it back and request a new form. Not difficult.
I meant put a mark in place that they don't notice,(hence it could look like they marked a one twice which
would make the vote invalid).

and this year again they were applied for but never recieved from the same dodgy Lib mob. guess I am on a black list or they are just incompedent.
I then got them direct from the AEC and I will not be dealing with or responding to either parties offers for potal votes again.

Sorry, I did misread the first post.
Once the party office receives the postal vote application and passes it to the AEC that is the end of their involvement. The actual voting forms are sent to you by the AEC and you return them to the AEC.
This year's application is as it should be....application sent to the party office for delivery to the AEC who then sent the voting forms to you. The actual voting process is only handled by the AEC....no party office should ever handle the actual votes and there is no way the AEC would give any voting forms to a candidate's party office.
Next election I would advise you to apply for postal voting online, direct to the AEC.
