Updated Wed Jan 9, 2013
The Bureau of Meteorology has been forced to introduce new colours to some of its charts because of recent extreme heat in Central Australia.
Shades of deep purple and magenta have been added to the forecast map for temperatures up to 54 degrees Celsius.
The temperature range was previously capped at 50C.
What a load of hogwash...
That was just the media doing what they do best, making a story out of sweet nothing.
I remember the interview they did with the BOM very well and the colour has always been there.........they just decided to display it more as the heat wave lengthened.
You seriously think there wasn't anywhere in Aust that didn't get over 50C before this year.................phffftttt.
I am not ancient in age but clearly remember heat waves before ....doesn't anyone else?

the opening post is from the UK.So is this.
Is it correct that the effect of global warming isn't just hotter weather but more extreme weather events, fires , death of plant and animal life ?

yes iza. things like a years rain in one day. prolonged drought and extreme cold snaps in the northern hemisphere and ice shelves melting a month later . its not at all orderly . these factors make it hard to comprehend for most lay persons being by nature chaotic.

some may not want to believe if it costs them money I suppose and some may not believe or care about the effects anyway (yet they may perhaps about their money?).
It is costing and will continue to cost (and more than just money) if ignored.
If I just look at food supply I know that it costs us more to raise a cow if their is no food and water available...if that needs to be bought and brought in .On a larger scale that does and will impact on farmers and everyone who needs to eat.
