Well, I guess he was a refugee of sorts - a refugee from the law.
And speakig of refugees and the law, I'd love to see a list of those individuals Polocross reckons are 'constantly in the news for violent and other crimes'.

Do you mean like this man, Dr Munjed Al Muderis?
Did he destroy / falsify documents? Lose them?
Either way, it doesn't matter. Not all refugees accepted in Australia are criminals and not all are bionic surgeons. There is a big area in between.
As to having personally befriended any refugees, well I don't know. I don't ask every person of middle-eastern appearance that I meet about their method of coming to Australia.
I tend to take people at face value.

Then if, as Polocrosse maintains, some refugees are constantly in the news for violent and other crimes, how effective is the screening process. And let's not forget Ronnie Biggs (part of a gang who bashed a train guard so badly he later died of his injuries) spent quite a few years in Australia under a false name.
Biggs was part of the gang, but he was a minor player and did not bash anyone.
He was an immigrant, not a refugee.

I was a refugee from the English climate.

Yes. His mother destroyed his documents to increase his chances of escape and got false docs for him.
He went on to become on of our top surgeons after Ruddock said he would have no chance or pursuing his medical career in Australia.

Pretty sure he wasn't here legally, though. At least not under his real ID.
