Hi, Anyone know a good Cocker Spaniel breeder in Vic?

Does anyone know of a good Cocker Spaniel breeder in Victoria?

Needs to be all black long haired.

Looking to get one for mum, like the one she had in Denmark.

Appreciate some direction from the knowledgable cocker lovers. TIA. Smiley Happy

Are black labs supposed to be intelligent?  I got dudded!

No, he's pretty good now that he's grown up but I agree they are not ideal pups for an older lady.  Cocker spaniels are beautiful and I've heard that they are very intelligent.

They are very energetic and run around feet tripping people over.

We were once given one that an elderly couple couldn't safely manage.  I think one tripped over the ankle circling dog and broke a hip.

Have a look here Kopes

You might get a cocker from them and at the same time give a needy animal a good home

Kopes we had one exactly like that pic, his name was lucky. We named him that because he was on the last hours at the pound and we saved him just in time.  Best dog we ever had.  Just a thought try these guys English Cocker Spaniels Australia on FB.  They may know of someone or you may be able to adopt one or even do foster care.

Good luck

I know Glee and that has been my only reservation in getting one.

But I think the joy a spaniel will give to mum far outweighs the possible probs.

At least at this age, when mum is older I may need to adopt the dog.

Yes, they are lovely dogs and if your mum is good on her feet and can walk it she should be ok with it.  They do make very good campanion dogs and are quite intelligent.

The problem with English Cockers, is that they prance around all day with their nose in the air......they have trouble breathing through that stiff upper lip.

The problem with American Cockers is that they all are packing heat.......or according to Joanie, they should be........Smiley Wink

I hear what you are saying but this is an unusual situation.

Mum is bored not eating properly and feels like she doesn't want to be here anymore.

Before she was married, as a teen, grandma had a black cocker. (more than 55 years ago)

And we have had many pets since.

I am wanting to bring her memories of a happy time back together with her having something to care for and love.

She needs a friend. I know her and I know this will lift her tremendously.

Thanks super, I have googled also but hoping someone has a great recommendation from knowledge or experience.

nics, Smiley Very Happy  I think gkam is wondering why that particular kind.

She has to want the dog.  People believe that older members of a family will want a dog as a present, and it is not always the case.

You won't want the dog to become a burden.....please ask if it is something she will want first....or be prepared to take the dog if she

  says no.....

our girl was born in 1977, I have forgotten the breeders name.

Breeds have changed a lot in the 40 years; some for better, some for worse.

Good way to see dogs and make a contact with a breeder is to go and see a show.  The Cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria has their annual specialty on Saturday 11th April at the KCC Park Skye (Cranbourne).

Thanks super, that's perfect. Good timing too.

I think it is the place I pass regularly on the way to the Peninsula, continuing from Monash freeway.

Appreciate it. Smiley Very Happy
