How Embarassment for Monash University

Monash University mocked on Buzzfeed

Monash University has won a mention on one of the internet’s most popular viral news websites, Buzzfeed, but for all the wrong reasons.

The Melbourne university was mocked over a typo in a highly visible advertisement that appeared on a tram shelter in Melbourne last month.

The ad read "What’s more brilliant then a Monash degree," when it should have said "What’s more brilliant than a Monash degree".

Ok anyone can make a typo , but what happened to proofreading? How many hands would that have gone through before it was signposted, and no-one picked it up?

Re: How Embarassment for Monash University

It  most likely, would have been the signwriters (or whatever they call them now, more computerised these days) error on that sign. The Uni may not have been asked to proof read a simple sign like that?

My boss checked the business cards he ordered before the printer printed them and he didn't notice the phone number was wrong...the printer did them again for 1/2 price.

You would think print staff would be extra careful with phone numbers on business cards.

Yes but obviously this will not be seen by thousands............it is easy to miss spell or hit the wrong button here......

especially if using a phone or ipad.

I realise that (we all do it), it was ironic, that's all.  Glass houses and all that.....

No, not irony.  Its called malapropism.

There were about 150 invitations to a dinner for medicos with the dress required as "Lounge Suite".   They were cards, and I found them in the WPB and used the other side for shopping lists for ages.

Pretty sure embarrassment is spelled embarrassment lol

I even asked the spellchecker Smiley Wink

from Wikipedia:

"Effie's catchphrases include "How embarrassment!" (see malapropism) in response to any potentially embarrassing situation. She greets people with "Hello, good thanks" before they have even asked her how she is feeling."

Here's a youtube clip "Best of Effie" for further edumacation lol.
