How does it make it harder for people smugglers if the government doesn't tell us

when people drown until Friday or whatever day they decide to tell us?

Can someone explain how this secrecy of boat arrivals discourages people smugglers?

 people talk. asylum seekers talk to each other, they know how poor the craft will likely be  they know there's a good chance of drowning. the point being that there was never any guarantee.

Did you know Tony A kept the Indonesian officials waiting today (they had a 10am appt with him), because he was in Parliament fighting over being allowed to call Bill... 'electricity Bill'? It was not even essential that he be in Parliament at that time.
