it's 44 outdoors and 31 inside.
I have just been out hosing down my caged birds. The big boofheaded english budgie is not coping well.
I also had a king parrot on top of the cage that looked just about knackered. She didn't move when I sprayed her, nor did the rosella in the tree. The kingparrot is sitting on my top step now, she looks a bit better.
I've put a container of water under a tree down the paddock for the koalas and other natives.
I put the hose on the dog too, he wasn't the least bit grateful LOL

We ended up putting the sprinklers on for the native birds. I had two parrots that I didn't think would see the day out but they did. One little fellow I have never seen before. I think he is either a fig parrot, which aren't found here, or a lorikeet which I don't think should be here either.
Pimpy, I'm fairly sure that the bird pictured is a Little Lorikeet, which are very widespread from Adelaide right up to far north Queensland. It does look somewhat similar to the Double-eyed Fig-Parrot but is lacking the red flashes on their wing-tops.
However, the Fig-parrot's distribution is quite small and specific, being found only in the coastal Qld/NSW border area, around the Mackay region, and right up on the tip of Cape York peninsula, so unless you live in one of the aforementioned areas, it's very unlikely to have been one of those.
Regardless, good on you for making sure there was plenty of water for the birds, as the temp here today in Logan City was 40 degrees in the shade, and was still 35 at 9pm! Even worse, tomorrow is expected to reach 42, so keep that birdbath full. ๐

It is supposed to be hotter today here, yesterday I had to go out and visit my daughter.................. I had some really green bananas in the car in a foam box, by the time I got home, they were ripe! Today I am staying home!

What a beautiful scene Jimmy, I really miss that, can't wait for winter again, even here ...
Tassie isn't really getting much of summer at all, let alone a heatwave, hope it stays like that ...
Stay safe everyone, keep as cool as you can xx

I don't know what temp it is here in Glass House, but I suspect it's well over 30...my air con reverts to a fan after we reach that high, which is useless. phone call next week to installer!!

The rain is clearing here now. About 19 at present.
Please be careful when hosing down dogs. Some coats are thick and stay wet for a long time....the water then heats up and makes them even hotter.

Thanks CQ, he does look like the Little Lorikeet. I wonder where the rest of his friends are.
This morning there is a young galah asleep on the bird bath with his tail in the water. OH found another baby peewee on the ground. It's still alive but can barely fly.
Twinkles, I hosed my dogs bare belly he hates it LOL. He was dry again within minutes. I hope we don't get the hot wind we had yesterday. It's only 35 outside so far.
