What a brilliant answer, countess.
Littlemissrita, I think a lot of the answer comes down to 'because governments everywhere wanted a vaccine asap'.
That's oversimplifying it compared to countess's detailed answer, I know.
But it brings to mind something I saw happening first hand in the medical field a few years ago. A child at a school where I worked died. She died of a specific brain cancer. Her parents decided that they wanted more research into that condition, even though it would no longer help their daughter it could help others, and they started up a foundation to raise funds. It is called the Isabella and Marcus foundation.
It has taken years of fundraising and research but there are new drugs being trialled. It has taken years though, because it is only one of a number of medical conditions being looked at, it hasn't been the #1 priority of government.
But covid. That's different. It has been affecting many more people and governments everywhere have been determined to tackle it. It's not just that lockdowns hurt the economy, it is that hospital systems could break down under the pressure. So enormous funds have been thrown at the research for a vaccine.
As countess also said, it isn't that corona viruses are completely new either so there was some prior knowledge to build on.
It just goes to show what money and a very specific focus can achieve.
It reminds me of the atomic bomb in a way. There is a very good reason why that was developed in war time, it wasn't coincidental timing. It was focus.

Medical research was toying with cellular factory immunity systems since i think 2012 , with vague objectives relating to conditions normally fatal
I seem to recall original SARS pandemic scare was an additional motivator
So has been slowing developing over almost a decade but hampered by no serious demand - common cold is also a coronavirus and the influenza menace is just accepted with establish vaccines available

Without vaccines for influenza, too high a number of people became very ill or died.
Our current ability to manage the ’flu is the result of ’flu virus history among humans (that is, strains that have circulated, strains that have infected us, strains that have been identified, strains that are seasonal, and strains against which vaccines have been tailored and which are included in ever-updated vaccines). These influenza viruses (negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses that are part of the Orthomyxoviridae family) have been infecting humans since at least 1510 (and first universally accepted influenza epidemic occurred in 1580), and probably earlier. Hippocrates described a type of respiratory disease in AD 412 which might be influenza, but lacking epidemiological data, we can only speculate.
What we do know is that circulating influenza viruses will mutate and that some of these mutations will cause pandemics. ’Flu vaccines are regularly updated to ensure that the most recent circulating virus strains are protected against. Quadrivalent (split) vaccines are the ones used today to give the best possible protection currently available (with two influenza A strains and two influenza B antigens).
If ’flu vaccines aren’t updated each year at least, we would be vulnerable to the virus mutations / antigenic drifts that happen so quickly among these particular viruses.
There is very exciting research going on presently regarding a T-cell-based universal vaccine, and also a vaccine based on the influenza matrix protein 2 because this is “highly preserved” in influenza viruses (meaning it doesn’t change as a general rule, even though other parts of the virus do mutate frequently). Ditto with ongoing research into a vaccine based on the haemagglutinin stalk domain protein of the influenza viruses, rather than being based on the globular head of the haemagglutinin. (The haemagglutinin (HA for short) is on the surface of the virus; it’s a necessary part of its mechanism for infectivity. The globular head is highly variable; the stalk is preserved (doesn’t change) so it’s a hugely promising target for a universal vaccine – see the results of the 2016 human trial in doi:10.1016/j.cell.2016.06.043)

I have no issue with people that take the jab. I have said that on numerous occasion. I have also said on numerous occasion that I am not anti-vaccination and some are helpful . I respect the decision of those people who decide it be the best course for them. I have stated this multiple times. The right for those who choose not to take it is paramount and must also be respected. We could be in a fascist society if this is not the case.
Pretty sure there are other industries that require workers to be vaccinated - vets, meat workers, early childhood workers, medical staff? - Q fever, rabies, flu, hep A, MMR?

Reply:
For starters, nobody should have a vaccination forced on them. Nobody should be part of an experiment that they don't want. Nobody should be coerced, blackmailed or bullied into one. Where there was never a requirement as there are in factories etc., there should never be one brought in.
When a vaccine is not actually a vaccine, it is indeed something else. In saying that, perhaps a tomato can be a fish if it contains fish DNA (such as those tomatoes some years back) but that's another story for another day.
This new injection technology which is can be considered to be new ground is said to be relying on trial and error as we have seen, rather than drawing as much as a vaccine should be on past data.

This not a vaccine

I'm not anti-vaccination. I maintain my stance that some can be helpful. But, when there are proven safe drug treatments that can be used to treat the 1% (or whatever it is) who succumb to the virus then that should be an option.
Australia is a country which prides itself on being part of the free world.
And more study is needed.

Pfizer CEO Warns of Vaccine-Resistant COVID-19 Variants

According to an article at The Defender , the paper explains a “key piece of the puzzle” as to why the Delta variant is spreading so rapidly despite nations seeing higher vaccinations. Fully vaccinated are participating as COVID-19 patients and acting as powerful Typhoid Mary-style super-spreaders of the infection.”
In a recent podcast at The Whistleblower Newsroom, Dr. Peter McCullough, who is certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and clinical lipidology, stated that once a society gets 25 percent of its population vaccinated against a virus, it is likely that a resistant variant of the virus will eventually emerge.
“That [theory] makes sense… Just like an antibiotic, once we get to a certain percentage of coverage with an antibiotic, we’ll allow a resistant bacteria to move forward,” McCullough said.

As for your Dr Peter McCullough :
August 6th 2021
Lawsuit: Doc Using Old Baylor Affiliation While Dishing COVID Vax Falsehoods — Baylor Scott & White Health says Peter McCullough, MD, used former title during media interviews
Baylor Scott & White Health sued former employee and cardiologist Peter McCullough, MD, last week, alleging that he illegitimately affiliated himself with its facilities when promoting controversial views about COVID-19.
Nearly 6 months after McCullough's employment had ended, he continued to use his former professional titles -- such as "vice chief of internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center" -- in media interviews in which he spread his opinions about the pandemic, the lawsuit alleged.
Since McCullough entered a confidential employment separation agreement with Baylor in February, the cardiologist has conducted "dozens, if not hundreds" of media interviews in which he used his former affiliation, according to legal documents. Baylor Scott & White Health and the HealthTexas Provider Network, the other listed plaintiff, have accused the cardiologist of breaching his contract.
The lawsuit, first reported by the Dallas Morning News, stated that Baylor received several inquiries expressing confusion about McCullough's employment and affiliation status -- matters that the separation agreement were meant to clarify, it said.
"This ongoing confusion regarding McCullough's affiliations, and whether Plaintiffs support his opinions, is exactly what Plaintiffs bargained to avoid in the Separation Agreement," the lawsuit stated. The plaintiffs added that McCullough's continued affiliation is likely to cause "irreparable reputational and business harm."
In several media interviews, McCullough has spread misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. He has claimed that there is no scientific reason for healthy people under 50 and those who have recovered from COVID to get the vaccine, and has asserted that 50,000 Americans have died from the shots. According to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), there have been 6,490 deaths after COVID vaccination -- and it's unclear if the immunizations were the actual cause of death in these cases.
McCullough has also come under fire for promoting the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19. A group of clinicians from Doctors for America, a nonprofit physician organization, wrote in the Dallas Morning News last December that they were "deeply concerned after hearing the baseless, misleading commentary" from McCullough, in which he promoted the use of the antimalarial drug for early outpatient COVID-19 care. Randomized controlled trials have repeatedly shown that hydroxychloroquine is not effective to treat or prevent COVID-19, the physicians said.
In a statement shared with MedPage Today, McCullough's attorney Clinton Mikel said that Baylor's lawsuit is "frivolous" and driven by the current political landscape, as the lawsuit was filed on the same day Baylor announced it would be mandating COVID-19 vaccines for employees.
"This is a politically motivated attempt to silence Dr. McCullough as he saves countless patient lives from COVID-19 and from ancillary actions related to COVID-19," Mikel stated.
He added that McCullough did not state in any interviews that he was employed by or affiliated with Baylor, but because of his history with the health system, media sources have erroneously affiliated him with it without his consent. Mikel also said that McCullough is not anti-vaccine, but believes that the risks from COVID-19 vaccines outweigh the benefits.
The plaintiffs filed a motion for a restraining order against McCullough, in which they stated that they do not aim to silence McCullough, but to clarify that his opinions are his own.
"This is not a free speech issue or stifling of dissent. McCullough can offer his opinions to whomever he wishes, but he cannot do so while claiming current affiliation with Plaintiffs," they stated.
' In all fairness '. lol

Where profit is concerned or a threat to profit is present, whoever threatens profit is going to be a target.
I have also found it quite amusing where an aspect of a person is attacked rather than looking at what the subject is. Sadly too, the "aspect" can often be incorrect and this targeted person is not guilty of the offenses that have been alleged.

FACTCHECKING THE FACTCHECKER: DR. PETER MCCULLOUGH REBUTS AFP REPORTER AND “FACTCHECKER” REMI BANET’S ASSERTION THAT HE MADE FALSE CLAIMS ABOUT COVID: On the same day Dr. McCullough was interviewed on THE WHISTLEBLOWER NEWSROOM, and without talking to Dr. McCullough before writing his piece, AFP reporter and “factchecker” Remi Banet posted an article claiming that Dr. McCullough had made three claims that Banet says are false: that healthy people under 50 don’t need the Covid vaccine, that people recovered from Covid don’t need the vaccine, and that there is no asymptomatic spread of Covid. In this hour, Dr. McCullough rebuts Banet’s assertions in detail and offers to speak to him directly

Credibility!
In addition to the injection agenda, it makes good sense to include early stage drug treatment under strict medical supervision by a qualified doctor.

Further to my last post.
Sadly some so called fact checker sites / orgs, regulatory bodies have that not so visible link to various industries.
To discredit and individual who is a threat to the profit off an organization is a common ploy. If that fails they discredit the publishing platform. The main thing is that shareholders are well looked after.
