I've had my Westinghouse for 8 years and it's finally carked it - after a costly repair last year.
Just wondering - I'm sure in the last generation fridges used to last a lot longer.
What are others experiences?

Life expectancy for bigger electrical items is supposed to be 6-7 years these days, sadly.
I know of two fridges that have carked it recently and they were both just under 10 years old..
Fridges used to last about 20-30 years didn't they?

You would be lucky to get more than 10 years out of any household appliance these days. I also have a Westinghouse and I've had problems with it from day one.
Out in the shed I have an old 1950's fridge that still works but it freezes things now. I'd love to get it fixed properly one of these days because I love it.

mine doesn't need the ventillation space at back. It is over 15 years old, F&P. The previous one was the worst ever fridge, philips, and was stuffed at about 5 yrs....

Thats what I thought amethyst that they used to last about 20 years. Mum had a Kelvinator that lasted about 25 years.
Yep I'm getting a new one, but not bothering with a Name
brand after this.
I think maybe Fischer & Paykel are very good but I can't afford it.

i have one too, made in the 40's a Rotafrig. its round and it has a lazy susan thing inside .. so you can rotate the shelves,
i drag it out when the moderns die .. every 5-7 yrs. its a case of not having enough freezer room then though.

I like this one too. It's in my other kitchen.

How many kitchens do you have joono?
F&P aren't as good a brand as they used to be. They are a NZ company and since they moved production off shore to Asia the quality isn't there anymore.
