I was chatting to a friend from Adelaide tonight who is selling her house in a beachside suburb (Semaphor Beach?). Shes about a block away from the waters edge so I thought she'd get a few mill. (I'm from Sydney lol!).
But she reckons she'll be happy to hit the $500,000 mark.
I can't imagine a house so close to the city and so close to the water selling for that price but then again, being from Sydney, I am a little skewed when it comes to real estate.
So what do you think is a fair price to pay for a house 10km from the CBD?
(Perhaps mention where you are from when you answer - it might put your response into perspective)

I hope those hills are far way from you ATM Chuk
I love the feel of Adelaide and it's old buildings. I might be wrong but I think wages are a bit lower there than in Melb or Sydney and that reflects on the house prices.
I have relatives who owned a lovely historic property on a large piece of land in Hawthorndene and that property sold for 1.3 million but it was far less than I thought it would go for. They downsized to Unley but I can't remember what they paid

yeah they are deb. There is either a huge black cloud coming over,or I can start to see the smoke and every now and then i get a whiff of burning. It is a very bad fire with expected losses.
yes wages are a bit lower here and the houses get cheaper the lower the area.
I cant afford to ever live at Semaphore or Hawthorndene.
Houses in my area go for high 200's to low 400's depending if the are in the hill or not

Compared to most of Australia SA is pretty cheap when it comes to decent houses for a decent price
Why? It is so pretty and civilised.
My friends house at Semaphore is in one of the side streets. You turn left at her front gate and you gaze down to the water. Maybe 10-15 houses away?
Gees it's pretty though.
(and as noted by someone else, hope that smoke doesn't come too close to you).

seriously its ages away from us, no worries there at all.
I love living here, yep its sleepy and boring and everything happens in March then nothing for the rest of the year....just the way I like it:-D
I agree, its pretty too, but I think Perth is also pretty. Flying over there the hills, looked a little like flying over Adelaide

Yes, there are the hills, but the majority of the suburbs are flat.
My relatives live in the hills surrounding Adelaide......where the fires are.
Around the Basket Range.

I medium price range for most major cities is at least half a mil.
It really depends on the area and market value.
You can get a mansion for half a mil in the States. You get bugger all for half a mil in Aus.
I can buy a 2 storey 5 bedroom,4 bathroom house with a theatre room, swimming pool, large front and rear yards with a gravelled circular driveway entrance for US$195000.00 in USA. Look on property USA to buy and you can take your pick. So many houses being repossessed by banks.

What town/city in the US would that be, newstart?
