How to stop random people / sales people ringing your doorbell

Put up a sign that says "Please do not ring door bell - BABY SLEEPING!".  This way, everyone who knows you (and knows you don't have a baby) will either ring the bell (cause they know it's a fake sign) or text you to ask whose baby your stole, and pesky sales people won't ring the bell because no one wants to face the wrath of someone who has had their baby woken up!

If you are having a garage sale, there is no point putting up a "no early callers" sign - annoying and rude people ring the bell anyway.  But the "baby sleeping" sign has worked 100% of the time for me!

These days I have an automatic gate at the end of a very long driveway, and I'm also off the beaten track so I never see any random callers.

It has spoilt a lot of the fun I used to have scaring the kack out of them :_|

The only occasion sport I get these days is from the ignorant who rattle at the gate leading from my property to the beach area, but they decide to take their leave in a hurry when they see me walking around the place toting a shotgun.

I don't mind charities knocking on my door.  Its the energy salespeople that are most annoying. JWs are OK too, always polite.

I see them walking up to the door and then just turn around and walk away.
