OK so it looks like Rudd ordered 14 jets at a cost of 3.2 billion back in 2009 with a view to increasing the fleet to 100 ( with no specific time range, possibly 2030)
abbott buys another 58 at a cost of 12 billion at a time when they are screaming about the budget deficit
was that too many in one hit do you think?

Gosh what a kerfuffle lol! All because of a throw away line in response tp someone elses comment. Talk about being on the defensive. And you need to ask what it is that I am afraid of lol??
Anyway, here is an article that sums a credible study done in 2012 by the fabulously clever people at BrockU: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2095549/Right-wingers-intelligent-left-wingers-says-c...

2030 might be too late, the production line mght be shut down by then.
"was that too many in one hit do you think?"
I don't think so. That makes a total of 72. You need a certain number to get enough on the front line AND operational at any one time.
3 Operational Squadrons
1 Training Squadron
And of course so of those aircraft will be down during maintenance. Factor in the odd crash or two, accidents etc.
Plus, you have to factor in Battle damage and shoot downs if they ever go to war, battle damage takes a while to repair.

I was wondering id you would find that.
ONE Study is all I could find.
Umm. You mustn't have searched far lol.
The reason I picked that article is because it highlighted a range of studies undertaken since 1968. Ie. More than one study was mentioned just in that article alone.
But carry on lol...

I think we probably couldn't afford to buy that many this year. we are all supposed to be tightening our belts you know

well, I hope we have the money to pay for them when we have to, we dont really want the deficit to get too out of control do we.

the point I'm making is that maybe our defence budget isn't so crash hot atm if they had to try and do that, but we have $12 billion worth of jets ordered this year, to be paid for. It's not good economics
