Why would billy work hard for an "A" when Johnny does no hard work and gets an "F" and they both end up with a "C". Why would Billy continue to work hard with no reward. When all his hard work is given away to benefit Johnny
That describes my ex neighbour so well. he wouldn't do any more overtime because he had to pay 50 cents in the dollar tax or something like that. Instead he sat at home and sucked on stubbies. Instead of looking it was money in his pocket and buying something like a negatively geared house to off set some of the tax but it was all too hard for him.
He would have made an absolute killing on a unit or a house if he had done that 20 years ago when I suggested it and he could
well afford it.

I'll go along with that.
I did just that, took the bull by the horns, the opportunity was there to make very good mioney so I worked 6 days a week.
I just threw everything at the house. So went from 17% interest rates where I earn'ed far less than the interest repayment
to paying it off in 6 and a half years. The first couple of years were a real struggle.
The opportunities are still there, just not quite as easily jumped on.
The last 10 years, the smart one's went to work in the mines.
Up NT way, $60k a year and that was just to wash out the rooms at the end of the day and a bit of cleaning
and that was not even in a remote site like the WA mines or Roxby Downs.
I know people in the mines who in 10 years went from havimng a mortgage to owning 2 - 3 hours. When the
mines run out, they will have a reasonable income per annum and everything else job wise is a bonus.
Agree, I couldn't give a damn who runs the country as long as they run the country, I have voted Labor and Liberal,
not that it makes any difference as I will always be in a very safe Labor seat.
One thing that gets me in this country is minorities have far too much power.

Perhaps those that cleave to a left wing ideology are the most confused of all.
Political leanings: Who is 'left wing,' and who just thinks they are?
A new study from the University of Leicester Department of Economics reveals that highly educated people make wrong assumptions about their political leanings -- they are more likely to think they are left wing when they are more likely to be relatively conservative.
The study suggests that some people may end up voting for left of centre parties because they hold the mistaken belief that they are left wing.
The research by Dr James Rockey, a lecturer in Economics, used data from the World Values Survey and described the opinions and characteristics of 136,000 individuals, in 82 countries, over a period of over 20 years.
His study, Who is Left-Wing, and Who Just Thinks They Are?, analysed whether people misperceive their relative ideological position by measuring on a scale from 1 to 10 what people think they are -- and measuring their opinion against a substantive issue ie how income should be divided.
"The most startling result is that the more educated tend to believe that they are more left-wing than they are measured as being," said Dr Rockey. "That is, well-educated individuals are more likely to think that they are quite left-wing but actually believe things that compared to the rest of the population would make them comparatively right-wing.

Those people who cleave to right wing ideology seem to form opinions and beliefs that anneal around typical right wing policies and philosophies.
On the other hand left wing people seem to not understand themselves and don't know what they stand for. Could it be that right wing people are the intelligent ones after all.
