For Tony Abbott, 

Promises before the election, will people forgive him?

These very important promises he made probably convinced many to vote for him.

Does it make him look like a fool because he harped on about the previous governments promises.

the Howard govt. was lucky enough to be running the show during a huge mining boom, the sale of assets such as telstra etc.  anyone in govt. could've had a surplus at the time, so it doesn't mean much apart from something the libs use against the labor party who steered us through the GFC

now that the mining boom has ended, and commodities are dropping in price, and factoring in  their ridiculous budget that won't ever get passed in it's entirity , it's going to be a different story for the current govt.

The $7 co payment was not to help the budget short fall, it was earmarked for medical research.

so they said but at the same time they use the deficit as a reason for introducing their precious "price point" co payment.  They can't have it both ways. They also at the same time shut down medical research units that already existed..   Cut funds to the Ebola research unit while ebola is raging in Africe.

It suited Clive and Gina to have the mining tax dumped, I really can't see any advantage in dumping it. It was a revenue raiser

you will go blue in the face whilst holding your breath waiting for it, besides he has not got the fortitude or guts to make a sincere apology.

All this banging on by the Abbott and his crony Coalition-ers that the 'mess' and HUGE 'debt' they have is all Labour's fault is a furphy........the cause and blame started with Howard and Costello from about Howards 2nd term as PM. They coasted/feasted with all their maaaates and scrimped instead of investing for the future of Australia and Australians.......that smugness of Costello's was so annoying!

We had a very successful Premier here who regularly admitted his mistakes and regularly said sorry.  His popularity rose each time.

I doubt it would have the same effect for Abbott.
