In the Supermarked. I was doing some fruit and veg shopping and noticed him struggling to open the produce bag. I've struggled with them before so I wondered if I should help him or would he feel I was being patronised.
As I walked past him I jokingly said, "you have to spit on it"! I always wet my thumb and index finger to open the bags.
We laughed and he went pretendy "ptui ptui" on the bag.
I went around and got some tomatoes and deliberated whether I should get the lemons from USA or limes from Aus.
When I looked up he was still patiently struggling with the bag.
I felt bad then about the flippant spit comment and said "can I help you"? He gave me the bag and I showed him how I lick my thumb and finger and the bag opened straight away! (It's not always that easy).
Anyway we had shared another laugh about it and went about our shopping.
I had to get the fruit and veg guy to help me with mine once.

This has nothing to do with politics, if you read my original post about the control that is exercised on here, on us, on adults who like to go beyond the mundane & have a real conversation without being "moderated".
Oh well if you're happy....
Could also do without the lecture.
not all of us would consider calling someone or a group of people lefTERDs adult .that's just my view

Well I helped an old couple a few weeks ago because they were flustered and didn't understand the whole self service register and I stood there working it out for them with a screaming three year old at my side. My main forum is facebook where my entire family, friends and colleagues are and I didn't post it. I truly don't understand the reason why one should
If you have a screaming three year old at your side, you are doing it wrong.

Lind, there was a pension for deserted and divorced wives in 1960, I don't know exactly when it was introduced before then. As was everything back then, it was not well known.
I agre with everything you say about young women (and not so young women) today not knowing what difficulties others have experienced before these affluent times.

I think it was in the late 50's...as my mother was on it, when my father left home........she wasnt on it for long.
There was and still is alot of payments that they dont/didnt mention.

are each of us (even someone in my 40's such as I am ) permitted to give our own input on what we know and don't know ?
I like to listen and learn. My Mum was born in the 40's and I lived with what she went through.I was her defender and as such I was and still am my Father's target too...someone who he tells others (and has done since I needed to protect my Mum) in his defence 'tells lies and is just like her Mother'.
I lived that with her .I know how our and my own life was .No one else can speak for me.Nor can I speak for anyone else.
I really hate stereotypes .I think that they tend to be negative and don't allow people to be individuals .

Good morning everybuddy
It never ceases to amaze the turns a thread will take.
My little story about helping the man open his produce bag with a bit of a lick on thumb and index finger was just a lighthearted take on a friendly human-to-human interchange regardless of gender, race or age.
Not about doing a good deed so much, but it always makes me feel good to help someone, and I'm sure that goes for most people.
And just to illustrate that a little bit of spit sometimes helps.
For those that saw the funny side of it, thank you.
For those that chose to make something else out it - as you were.

Icy........you did a good deed for an old man...........a lot of people would just have walked past, as happens in todays world.
I loved the story and I like reading all things that you post.
I guess with the school holidays with us we will get alot of strange/odd posts from people trying to disrupt things.
You did well!!

Hi Icy,
In revealing what I consider to be my strength ...I've also shown what has been used to show my weakness.
My honesty and who I am.. is really really important to me.I fought for it

I'm not sure what you are getting at? I was responding to and agreeing with Lind, nothing directed at anyone else.
