In the Supermarked. I was doing some fruit and veg shopping and noticed him struggling to open the produce bag. I've struggled with them before so I wondered if I should help him or would he feel I was being patronised.
As I walked past him I jokingly said, "you have to spit on it"! I always wet my thumb and index finger to open the bags.
We laughed and he went pretendy "ptui ptui" on the bag.
I went around and got some tomatoes and deliberated whether I should get the lemons from USA or limes from Aus.
When I looked up he was still patiently struggling with the bag.
I felt bad then about the flippant spit comment and said "can I help you"? He gave me the bag and I showed him how I lick my thumb and finger and the bag opened straight away! (It's not always that easy).
Anyway we had shared another laugh about it and went about our shopping.
I had to get the fruit and veg guy to help me with mine once.

the coveted five-laughy face award.
It took me ages to get that...
BTW, I googled your ID. I don't recommend it to anyone else here. Except maybe the mods.

@lightningdance wrote:Icy, I enjoyed your post but the concerted attack on your motives was disturbing to say the least.
All this nit picking about "spitting" is just that, a wedge to make you feel bad about doing someone a favour. I'm sure you didn't "spit" on anything & the endless harping about it?? just ignore them, no need to defend yourself against this type of pettiness.
It's Christmas everybody,at least try to have some charitable thoughts, to help others in need.
Icy, plant a fig tree, that's what I'm going to do
Thanks, Lightning
I'm seriously considering taking yours and Erica's advice about planting a little fruit tree. I have a large terracotta pot that just has some rubbishy pampas grass thingy I might get rid of to make room for it.

Had a quiet giggle yesterday..................... mother with tbaby in a trolley, baby seat part covered in a fancy shmancy seat cover, complete with 2 pillows and the handle covered.........baby sitting in the other part of the trolley with the shopping........... chewing on the trolley!
I love that post Azureline.

I too am perplexed at the reactions of some posters to Icys OP. In saying that though it is refreshing to see such a varied group of opinions from the posters here. I personally respect anyone with a strong opinion. I enjoy debating (even argueing) with people that can handle listening to my opinions on things. Although here in CS I am probably more of a lurker, there are comments I would like to make sometimes but it does seem to me like a "fragile" forum environment so I refrain because I am fairly new to posting on these boards and dont want to seem like a keyboard warrior.
Although getting worked up about a good deed that involved a little human "saliva" seems just a touch petty IMO. It's not like like Icy coughed up a huge grolly into the plastic bag.
Imagine how covered in bacteria all those kids must be whose mums lick a tissue then wipe their face.

Hehehe
The way I see it Icy is you can get some really good discussion happening on this forum. Theres clearly some people on here that have made some good buddies and like talking to each other about the things that happen in their everyday lives. I dont think you were trying to get Kudos for your original post, you were simply starting up a topic for discussion.

You're so right, seconds, it wasn't a pat-myself-on-the-back thing, it was the humour of the situation that I wanted to relate here for general chit-chat.
Most ppl see that.
Over the years of posting on this forum I'm quite prepared for the usual challengers. No problemo.

As it is 3 days since Icy started this thread has anyone checked on the old man to see if he succumbed to the golly attack?
