...for entertainment!
Last night's finale of Ja'mie was disappointing, and the language and the some of the scenes were gross.
I left the TV after that but was sitting nearby at the computer when "Shock Horror Aunty" came on. Some of the language in that was so disgusting I made OH change the channel.
Is that what's being served up as entertainment these days?
I always thought the ABC was more conservative.

I am shocked too Icy..shocked and sickened to the eye balls with how 'good'
Australians treat other people.
while at the same time claiming or feeling some kind of supperiority to other human beings
and other Australians

I have to agree that ABC should not waste time with programs like Ja'mie; I only got the last bit of it as I turned the TV to watch "Shock Horror Aunty", and that was enough. Sadly the language is what is quite normal among young people now.
"Shock Horror Aunty" was a documentary to show what was acceptable some years ago - like the horrid sexist advertisement for ABC back in 1970s, and what was not. And yes , the ABC always let young entertainers to push boundaries - sometimes in hindsight maybe they should have not. But this show was not showing highlights of the past, it was showing "Shock Horror", why watch it if that sort of thing offends you? These highlighted programs were just tiny part in what ABC offered us over the years.Unfortunately, as the funding for ABC continues to be reduced in the real terms, they cannot produce high quality programs as they used to, and can only buy so many good programs.

Absolutely right, I don't watch it, and had I known Ja'mie would end so badly, I wouldn't have watched that either. I really didn't expect it from Chris Lilley.
It just amazes me that it's presented as entertainment, and that people are actually entertained by it.
One of the phrases I heard in Shock Horror Aunty was "crawled back into his mother's v-a". That just gross!
That's when I made OH turn it off.

turn over to 'embarrssing fat bodies' or 'geordie shore' maybe. the ABC shows some rot for sure, but the political /current affairs content is only rivalled by SBS in this country. without it we'd have nothing approaching credible to watch.

there was one up there. You may not see it.
If it has become a problem in Australia for Australians to value kindness, honesty,Democracy and factual information over lies propaganda, elitism, and inflicting pain on others
(while at the same time Australians shout about how good we are and how bad other people in and from other places are).
I want to burn my Country's Flag myself .
I feel so ashamed

No thanks, I don't watch those kind of shows either. Never heard of Geordie Shore, but I can hazard a guess.
Actually I find less and less on the telly worth watching.
I'm pretty much reduced to animal and planet earth documentaries, Brit crime shows and the Antiques Roadshow kind of thing...

I think that there has been some quite good Australian programs on the ABC
among them Redfern Now,Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries,The Doctor Blake Mysteries
