Why would the death of a child on the road be of any significance.
Anyone earning less than $39000 per annum does not deserve a tax cut but the Liberal's are governing for allCrikey - how did the OP turn into - discrimination against the disabled - again.
And I haven't read yet - where anything was considered ' undeserved '.

Well - the irony is Lyhr - you have been considerably ' disabled ' for quite a while now.
I hope all is going well with that.

I am slowly getting there Domino, thanks for asking ๐ As I have mentioned many times my hub has a severely disabled knee and leg ( his doc referred to them as being deranged ) he also has DVT thus he cant walk very far, travel on planes at all or drive for long periods etc. The difference is we can lol about our disabilites and neither of us feel we are being discriminated against

Pay rise = higher cost of production = higher prices for goods = wages don't go very far so workers want another pay rise.
People in the lower to middle income area whose wages/salaries have stagnated although costs of everything else have increased, less money to buy anything, so these people cannot buy from retailers , who to compensate for loss of sales put staff off and so shrink the numbers of buyers/ sales( And also reduction of income and sales Tax to the Government).
If the retailers donโt have a stock turn over they cease to purchase from Manufactors/ Importers/ Producers who now because of the downturn in the sale of the products/sales put staff off and so shrink the numbers of sales( And also reduction of income and sales Tax to the Government). With the losses of markets sales to retailers they to enter a area of loss of business opportunities and face bankruptcy . Manufactors/ Importers/ Producers now have nowhere/no one to sell their Merchandise and so face Bankruptcy.
Now the Federal Government steps in and tells everyone that the Economy is going great and denies there is a need for a basic Wage/salary increase, and that a tax cut for these workers(including the ones who have lost their jobs) will restore stability to the market. On top of that the reduction in penalty rates will increase positions available in certain areas( although employers in these areas state there is no increase in these areas and in fact they are now finding in hard to attract staff to these positions

While it certainly feels like prices are increasing the figures dont actually bear that out. Australias inflation rate is currently sitting at 1.3 %. and has been historically low for several years. This is why the reserve bank decreased official interest rates last month with another cut expected either this month or next. Interest rates are currently at historic lows and while this limits income for retirees, it makes existing housing loans, car loans etc. more affordable for young families who are one of the biggest spenders in the ecomony. If housing investors are not paying high interest rates it also helps to stabilise rents for existing properties.
So while it is true that wages have been fairly stagnent for quite awhile, prices have not actually been increasing faster than wages and so wage increases are hard to justify. . As Rabbit has already mentioned, if wages increase faster than inflation it can tend to push up prices of consumables, making the wage rise ineffectual. This creates a never ending cycle of more wages needed to keep up with costs and then higher costs to cover the increase in wages.

re. penalty rates in low paid positions, I suspect you are correct that employers are finding it hard to fill positions in low paid positions. We are seeing this locally in both the fast food and hospitality industries and in the caring proffesions. Some aged care facilities are desperate for workers but this is resulting in above award wages being paid to staff.
One of my daughters 17 YO school friends earns nearly $50 per hour ( Sundays ) working as a kitchen hand and taking food to clients. He only works one day per week and takes home over $250 after tax for a 6 hour shift. The place simply cant get staff on weekends and the daughter is considering working there for the extra pay.
