Lif'e too short to even wonder why you cannot understand the mechanics an an auction.
I disagree, if buyers are leaving the site because they believe a seller is shill bidding when they aren't for example then this needs to be addressed and explained to the buyers. Even quite intelligent people don't get it.
i doubt that. it's so simple that one has to be fairly stupid to not understand it.
there are many bad things that can be said about ebay (especially if you are a seller), but not that the bidding is complicated.
if you are too stupid to understand bidding, just use the "Buy It Now" option only.

Donna is right. This is one of the most common questions asked on the tradings boards. It would be quite simple if everybody knew how the proxy system works but they don't. They think that the bid showing is the one that they have to beat.

alright, if ebay is haunted by ghosts it's probably not a good idea to buy there anyway.
try gumtree, no bidding there.

I don't recall the op mentioning shill bidding.

I also think because you can be outbid instantly it seems a bit unbelievable to a new buyer. They think the seller is involved somehow especially when it keeps happening, often the buyers are looking at and trying to win the same item and can't believe it.

The discussion is about 'shilling' and the bidding is simply the means by which it is accomplished.
condescending?? this from you? I understand perfectly the op's concern but she seems to be having a very successful buying time on ebay.
This thread should not be here in the first place and I'm sure you would be more comfortable advising on the selling/buying boards.
