Campbell Newman......
He has come to Bundaberg many times since the floods along with Tony Abbott... KRudd is yet to visit once... and since Rudd did not sign off on a lot of relief money he probably won't be well received if he does visit.
Anyway.. back to Mr Newman.... he has made some fantastic changes for our region and today he made a big announcement today that will create 500 jobs for the area...
I was very impressed with Mr Newman and feel very happy that my vote went to such an amazing man.
And for those that want to cry about the cuts I suggest you all look at the latest stats and see how much QLD has grown in the last 12 or so months. Jobs and growth are above and beyond what the rest of the countries growth has been.

I've never really understood this need for politicians of any persuasion to visit disaster sites. I remember wandering around, a bit dazed, the day after the Canberra fires and a ripple of horror going through the district that John Howard was about to visit (and before you jump I would have felt the same if it had been the opposition leader).
Our neighbourhood didn't need a fleeting visit from him and the press crush, all getting in the way of the genuine relief work.
Same with this constant visiting factory floors and building sites. You do your job and let them get on with theirs I reckon.

Considering that Campbell Newman is a leader and representative of Queensland, wouldn't it kinda be in his job description to visit Queensland towns and cities? I can't see how fulfilling the requirements of his job is anything remarkable.
I am wondering though, why would it be expected that Kevin Rudd visit Bundaberg when the Prime Minister and the Queensland representative had done so.
Just how many politicians are expected to visit one town?
Some kind of link to where Ms Gillard said the floods weren't that bad would be good, if you don't mind. Just so that the comment can be interpreted in context an' all.

Just being sure of any facts before making bold accusations and casting aspersions would be good, don't you think?

and wasn't Tony Abbott the leader of the Opposition at the time of the floods?
I'm thinking that a visit to the area by himself would kinda be in his job description as well, wouldn't it?

KRudd is yet to visit once
(I presume you mean Mr Rudd). Mr Rudd has been PM for five minutes. If he spent his time visiting all the old disaster sites in Australia, when would he have time to do his real job?

I agree with you on that Lurker.
This Country has had a number of disasters in the past number of years too hasn't it .
I clearly remember footage of Kevin Rudd helping in 2011 ...he too was affected by flooding. If I remember correctly he got a small cut on his foot which got infected as a result of spending hours wading through flood water .

And Newman who was Lord Mayor at the time did not get his feet wet. He did TV interviews perched squatting on a park bench.
