Campbell Newman......
He has come to Bundaberg many times since the floods along with Tony Abbott... KRudd is yet to visit once... and since Rudd did not sign off on a lot of relief money he probably won't be well received if he does visit.
Anyway.. back to Mr Newman.... he has made some fantastic changes for our region and today he made a big announcement today that will create 500 jobs for the area...
I was very impressed with Mr Newman and feel very happy that my vote went to such an amazing man.
And for those that want to cry about the cuts I suggest you all look at the latest stats and see how much QLD has grown in the last 12 or so months. Jobs and growth are above and beyond what the rest of the countries growth has been.

what concerns me with that sentence is the whole insurance thing.
There are many reasons people don't have insurance for floods... the laws were changed and now when you have insurance for floods you are covered for all floods.. but those laws came in on July 1st last year.. many of these people were still on their old insurance coverage that would have been taken out before July. I know 4 people that thought they were covered but missed out by just a few days...
many people were also from a very low socio economic area... they often cannot afford insurance. they might struggle to pay off a home in a more vulnerable area just so that they can get on the home owner market. They are the hardest hit.
There were also a lot of renters in that area and they often don't have insurance.. they lost it all... and they can't afford to pay the rent in other homes as the rents all went up after the damage to 2000 homes.. we just don't have that many rental properties to cover the overflow.
And to the other poster about 35 dead in the previous flood.. yep.. that was a tragedy... but that does not lessen the flooding we have had here... it does not mean that the heartache and saddness for the people here is lessened. People are struggling to get back on their feet... mental illness is a huge problem... suicide is also a huge problem...you come up here and tell those people that the floods were not as bad as last time.

Cats Back , your past posts would indicate that you are a member...paid or volunteer ..there would still be a code of ethics which applies or is that not the case ?
Posters have commented on your allegations and claims of a political nature .If you said these things at a polling booth to me as part of your volunteering I would correct you too...that should be OK ?

I hoe they sort it out too...
will be my first job on Wednesday to call and fix it up...
I am looking forward to being very invloved with the party... we have a lot of fundraising to do as the coffers are empty after this massive election... time to build the war chest for future elections. I can't believe how much money is spent and it then starts all over again.
hang on, so you have to pay a membership fee to join an organization to help them to fundraise for their advertising campaign?
OK, so people fundraise to pay for an advertising campaign whilst there are still people unable to go live in their houses after a natural disaster.... seems to me there are some mixed up priorities.
you can't take the money raised for the party and donate it to another cause... there are laws in place... very strong laws to make sure the money is allocated appropriately. Money is actually locked away in special accounts.
Political donations are very tightly watched in the LNP so that things like what happened in the AWU don't happen.

@catmad*2013 wrote:Huh? I thought you were a paid up member? You've mentioned this before and I thought that was the reason you manage to get up close and personal with Abbott/Neman?
you don't need to be a paid up member to meet these people... far out... get it right and don't assume... People on here have made many assuptions that have turned out very wrong.. I don't usually correct you because it really does not bother me.. you know what assume does don't you?
I only corrected Iza because she was making some very wrong and nasty accusations about me.... she needed to be told the truth.
I said that I had sent my membership papers in.. I have done it three times... in QLD you can't join online like the other State Liberal parties... you need to fill out the paperwork and post it..
The first two never arrived via Aust Post... very strange... the last one went through internal mail and is just stuck in a pile because the election campaign was a HUGE effort.

Huh? My query came bfore Izas. You've always talked about your involvment with the Liberal Party and I recall you posting when you sent your cheque in for payment - you made a big deal about it because you thought it was worth it despite you not having the spare cash yada yada. So it was no assumption.
Given that you never came back and made mention of the fact that your cheque was 'lost in the mail' 3 times, of course, I assumed that you were a fully functioning member of the LNP. Your posts have certainly always led me to believe it to be so.
Anyway, whatever. I only mentioned it cause I was surprised to see your comment saying you were looking forward to being 'involved' in the party..

I'm sorry you find it condescending to have your comments questioned

Thanks for that Cat
So I'm getting that there are different levels of membership.
The $5 ones just get your name on the "I wanna help on election day" list, is that right?
Do these members get the invites to the functions etc?
I can imagine joining a party is a pretty personal thing. Just witnessing the passion that people show here on CS kinda shows that. A person would have to be committed to publicly announce their beliefs, sort of like a religion really, which I spose it is, it is a belief system where members all have similar intrinsic values and beliefs.
I don't know much about the intricasies of politics, but something's not sitting right with me about the amount of monsy spent in the campaigns for election. Don't know how to word it, but I think this sort of stuff should be funded by those wanting the position. Not drawing funds from the general community when the population needs so much more money in their daily lives.
In theory, it should be as simple as each party producing a couple of policy documents in plain English that are available for everyone. No bull, no twists, just point out facts. "Here's what we stand for, here's what we hope to do" Not spend money on slagging off other parties and trying to usurp and diminish them.
I think that the amount of money spent on advertising material is appalling. When I went to vote yesterday, there were scores of posters - some had the same poster repeated over and over again all along the fenceline.
And does anyone actually read those "how to vote" pamphlets? I watched as heaps of people just got handed fistfulls of paper on their way into the booths only to toss them into a bin without even looking at them.

and Iza I am not going to reply to you any more... you can't even get my ID right... I have ignored it for a very long time but I find you to be argumentative and it is very condescending to me when you repeatedly do it.
You were CatsBack longer than you have been Catmad so it isn't surprising that your ID is still recalled as such. I doubt if iza is doing it on purpose as there would be no reason to do it.

lol.. cheque??? I have not had a cheque book for 20 years...

Speaking about Tony Abbott -
Iza, I recall you making a comment about our Country's Leaders ie Prime Ministers deserving an automatic respect (because of the title they hold, representing our Country, Australians etc etc) Do you still feel the same way?

I feel that so much has changed in my Country and more very ugly times are ahead...my answer 'no comment'
