I'm not sure if this is a joke,  or it's really how BING got it's name, but I read that Bing is called Bing because

Lol, the official story is that Bing is a short, easily recognisable and memorable word associated with quick success / results IYKWIM, like BING! your microwaved popcorn is ready.

But a machine that goes BING! is a poor substitute for, and nowhere near as impressive as, a machine that goes PING!*
