Lol, the official story is that Bing is a short, easily recognisable and memorable word associated with quick success / results IYKWIM, like BING! your microwaved popcorn is ready.
But a machine that goes BING! is a poor substitute for, and nowhere near as impressive as, a machine that goes PING!*

I went to school with Ping and worked with Bing.
My car has a Ding, maybe I am going to meet Denise Drysdale ?
