But if you try that logic with some devout believers, you get a response akin to "fake news", or God works in mysterious ways, or we cannot understand the mind of God. I can understand an acceptance of The Bible as a faith, but the stories are pretty wild, and difficult to believe.

Difficult?
I read Fantasy and Science Fiction by preference, and there are far less outre topics than the Bible provides.

Have you read the Well World series by Jack Chalker, Dave? I found that to be a very intriguing concept of creation.

Just one example is the Flood, lifted entirely from the Epic of Gilgamesh, a Sumerian myth that predates Judaism, much less Christianity.
The Bible was written well after the events it allegedly portrays. For example Adam and Eve had two sons. How did they continue the species, given that homosexuality is not known to be biologically fruitful and homosexuality is banned by the same god that allegedly told people they could have been the only continuers of the species?
There are many more holes in the Judaic myth, but these should be enough to get thinking people thinking.
I have asked Catholic priests and ministers that exact thing Dave. How did they breed when there were only 3 men and one woman? Incest? Further into the bible, one of the sons dies. The other goes to a far away land and "marrys". Where did all those people in the far away land come from? So far, no person of the cloth has been able to answer my questions.

Someone told me because they were so pure and freshly made incest was OK, unless they all went and mated with Cave women LOL

Adam and Eve were the first prototypes. It's likely that in the Land of Nod, there were other humans created and God the father had created them later. Prrobably a few dozen. Who knows how many?

Or maybe the people who wrote Genesis were not that bright and didn't think deeply enough about the story?

Or were the priests, looking for a way to control the masses. And live in luxury, to boot.

Someone tried to make me ' think outside the box '. lol
What if ' Adam & Eve ' were more than - one woman - one man.
We refer to Man - and when we do it - it is more than 1.

You would think, after more than 2000 years, someone would have come up with a more plausible explanation than "all things are possible with the Lord" or "you just have to have faith" carp that I was fed whenever I asked the same question.😎
