slightly off topic, but.....I never taught my children about Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny etc.....all in the same basket.

Back in the day 'Stranger Danger' was de rigueur....so that is what they got. I have been accused (by friends) that I took the 'magic of childhood' away.

Pfft....I would rather them know the plain facts of life....

I know someone who has done the same with her kids. Right from the get go presents came from mum and dad, not some imaginary person who breaks into your house in the middle of the night. They know about Santa et al and also know they can't tell their friends that they don't really exist, so they play along with their friends. They felt they would be lying to their kids by allowing them to believe in the imaginary beings.

Interestingly, they are very devout Catholics! Not able to believe in one lot of imaginary beings, but OK to believe in another!

As kids, we had Santa, but none of the others. We also found out a lot earlier than most kids that he wasn't real. We didn't let on for a long time though, because we thought that would be the end of our Christmas stocking (which was a pillow case).

What I find amusing is, young kids often have an imaginary friend. I didn't because my brother and I are close in age, but my sister did. Hers was a pink camel that was able to fly, named Beesting. Kids are strongly encouraged to abandon their imaginary friends by a certain age, or they could land themselves in therapy.

Yet, it's OK for adults to believe in imaginary friends, and it's not seen as weird?
