If I have to pay to see the GP

I might just take a bit longer and get my moneys worth.

Usually I am aware of people waiting (but there will be less of them apparently) so I can take my time ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: If I have to pay to see the GP

I  Have thought for a while now that people on regular scripts eg pill, basic anti depresents,f  ect should be able to just go to a nurse or pharmacy to get it like a flu shot and only see a doctor every year or two. I am lucky enough to only need the pill and seratide for OCD on a constant basis and I notice doctors just give out the script and off I go in about 2 min . they never bother to check me or anything ,apart from one doctor who checks my blood presure occasionaly .

This would save an awful lot of the health budget  and free up doctors for those that need to see one especialy in country areas where iv heard some awful stories of people not having access to a doctor for a couple of months due to being booked out .

Our current system is just not working and something has to be done  so the people who need a doctors help can see one

private health insurance is not something i would do, especially after experiences I know about. Public is still best, if not always pretty.

Re: If I have to pay to see the GP

i reckon if they put up my fees anymore, I may just agree with you. But we really don't have a great public system here on the coast, so whilst I can, I'll keep the private. But we did just get a new hospital, so maybe things are better now? I don't know.

I agree Boris, they should take them. Maybe my OH wouldn't have had his heart attack if he had'nt worked so hard. It wasn't worth it IMO. It seemed the more he gave, the more they expected.

Here private or public, it's the same hospital, the same care, the same Dr's, private patients just get a big bill at the end.

Amalan, that would work, really well in some cases but people like my OH have to have regular checks, blood tests etc, when they get their scripts renewed. I suppose it could be up to the doctors discretion whether someone needs to see them or not.

Re: If I have to pay to see the GP

There are hardly any bulk billing places where i am, there are a few, really packed all the time. I don't use them, my Dr doesn't bulk bill. Think it works out to be about $40 for 15 minute visit and it shoots up after that.

Re: If I have to pay to see the GP

Our doctor here, stopped bulk billing years ago. I don't know why. You have to pay $65 up front before they see you & they refund $30 into your bank account a few days later.
