If you were Indonesian, what would you think about Australians?

and our Government?

If I try and put myself in their shoes I would probably think that  a lot of Australians are very wealthy, greedy and not terribly compassionate. Generally speaking of course.

Surely they must be in shock when they read about boat returns to their much much poorer country.

I don't think respect should be forced, just considered, unless we stand in their shoes we will never know I guess.

Thank you tall, very well put and what many of us think about Indonesia but are drowned out by the sympathisers.

The posturing & corruption is blinding & here we have a thread being openly sypathetic to this nation & denigrating our own democratic beautiful country.

“I don't they it is valid to accuse them of not doing anything about it”.

and

“Yes, people standing up against corrupt govenment is going really well in Syria in this moment, isn't it?”

So your solution is to shrug ones shoulder and accept things for what they are and not how they could be.

If so, you should hold yourselves eternally grateful that your ancestors were not of a simular mind, for the society in which you live, was born out of blood, their blood, and lots of it.  That is the freedoms you now enjoy were not gifted.  They were taken at sword and bayonet point, and you retain them only because today, there still are men and women who are prepared to risk all, including their lives, to defend it.

Or what is you solution.  I take it you agree that most people living in third world countries would rather live under our system of governance than their own.  So if you’re saying they should not be prepared change things where they live, then are you saying they should simply move here, all of them?

The claque cachony of some on here is defeaning., They openly hate our country's government & despise our democracy. They would be happy to open our borders to the 20million who are on the move in the world looking for a better life & who cares what that would do to our econmy as long as the compassion factor is at 11.

I am glad we can get back to our orderly immigration system whee the real refugees rotting in putrid camps have an opportunity to come here.

I'm not saying any of those things, neither do I have the solutions, I don't agree that antagonizing the Indonesians is productive though, they seem to be caught in the middle to some extent. I started the thread to get a few opinions and ideas along with some insight into how people feel.

“I'm not saying any of those things, neither do I have the solutions”

That simply translates into; I understand the nature and scope of the problem, but simply can’t bring myself to make the hard decision necessary to bring about a solution, but still believe I have the right to second guess and criticise those who have the courage to place their personal feelings aside and make those hard  decisions for me.

I'm not, I am concerned about what they think about us though.

Then Indonesians are the ones to ask, good luck in finding a "run of the mill" indonesian who gives a hoot about anything but the Aussie dollar we idiots spend on their junk and fake handbags, watches etc.

I once went to a shop in Kuta and got the come on missy, barterted  for a while (as you do) and when i walked out and went into the next shop I was shouted at in Indonesian but the odd part was that I speak their language reasonably well and knew every word he said, the mods would not allow it to be put on here.

So, I think Indonesians really dislike Australians as a race, all they see is people walking around spending money which they don't have, staying at great resorts and they think we are all rich to be able to travel to Bali.

Some who have an education understand a bit better and appear not to have the same opinion.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

It may translate in your world tall bearded, not in mine. I didn't write this but I do agree with it.

“Yes, people standing up against corrupt govenment is going really well in Syria in this moment, isn't it?”

I'm not a politician, that doesn't mean I am unable to form views, there is no doubt it is not an easy job and not that appealing to some of the best out there.

I have enormous admiration for people that say what they think, actually ,so I am afraid you are way off with that one. I think you read earlier some of Malcom Frasers views on asylum seekers, I admire him sharing his views. The Malaysia solution would have been better than what we have now I think.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your views, you are wrong about mine and me though, way off in fact.
