I was wondering on another thread what culture/ assimilation/ integration means, especially in regards to refugees, actually means. The meaning probably differs from person to person so I was wondering what other's interpretation are. Just wondering.

Exactly, Icy. I choose to be with like minded people especially when it comes to things such as social justice, mental health, our first nations, child protection, animal welfare etc
No doubt there are millions and millions of people who think differently to me, and most of the time, that is a good thing because I wouldn't wish my self-destructive sadness, anxiety and bi polar way of thinking on anyone. But when it comes to the care and compassion of those who are most vulnerable, then, I wish that there were millions and millions more who did think that way.

You still haven't clarified who the "desired" inmates of prison are.
I would've thought any inmates of prisons would be "undesired".

Thank you she-el, that's nice of you to make an attempt at clarification on Blue's behalf.
However you've mis -cued a bit.
I actually wanted to know what Blue meant by prison inmates of "desired" religious/ethnic background.
Thank you.

If that is a dig at the children who were allowed to leave a school assembly before the singing of the National anthem, it is a bit disingenuous, Icy. It was one school, it had nothing to do with the National Anthem per se and provoked the following response from Islamic community leaders.
You might, however, like to take the issue up with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

the JWs are often criticised and ridiculed
because of their religious practices.
i've never seen their critics being labelled
as bigots, racists, haters etc...i wonder why?
anywho... more about integration:
An Islamic extremist living in Sydney could soon be charged with contempt following his repeated refusal to face a judge on the basis of his religious beliefs.
Milad bin Ahmad-Shah al-Ahmadzai claims he does not recognise any authority other than Islam and has so far refused to attend court to face charges for attempted murder and car theft.

But your exact words were: You still haven't clarified who the "desired" inmates of prison are. I would've thought any inmates of prisons would be "undesired.
If you don't say what you mean, then people will assume you mean what you say.

And I would assume. from what Bluecat actually said that she was referring to religious and ethnic backgrounds that are considered desirable (as opposed to undesirable) by the Pauline Hansons of this world.

I do stand up to the anthem, also I can not sing, I can speak the words.
And no, I don't live in a community of likeminded people, but Like someone else said, I am entitled to my opinion. You don't have to agree with me.

I wasn't addressing you Erica, those comments were intended for Blue-cat.
Pls disregard.
