Everyone has different priorities, there are quite a few laundromats where I live so these people must not have washing machines, yet they all seem to have phones

Well, no, not a sign of wealth, if all the unemployed dole bludgers have one. That must be true because I read it on CS.
I have an Android smart phone.. about 3 years old, will keep it till it dies.. expect that won't happen for a few years yet.

My htc developed an electrical fault two days out of warranty. It had a fantastic camera lens (they put the same one in across all their phones). RIP little dude. Hubby has the same one and it's fine (about six months on and counting) so no iPhone for him 😉

Having the latest iPhone is a status symbol for those who are status symbol prone. it also illustrates that media and peer pressure are are alive and well and utilised by both the media and others who are peers.
No it is not a sign of wealth it is a sign of keeping up with the Jonses. Hyathinth Bucket syndrome on steroids 🙂

Depends what is stored on the iPhones, too. Information is also of value.
having said that, my iPhone cost ten times as much as my last phone, but saved me having to buy a computer as well.
seeeeeeee...practical 😛
