Is it possible to be both religious and a feminist?

Can you for example follow the teachings of the Koran or Bible and still believe in equal rights for women?

No you research it yourself, you came here deliberately with a scripture completely out of context in order to stir up others. You are intelligent enough to go and actually research something you post? Or is this what it is always about with you, a fun way to bash anyone that believes in something you have little understanding of? Oh well each to their own whatever floats your boat. I've got better things to do with my time than entertain you.

I'm asking you. In what context is it OK to put women down or is it only OK in biblical times? You're saying to me, it's not always wrong to put women down and treat them like **bleep**. So in what context is that true?

Re: Is it possible to be both religious and a feminist?

Julia -you have only read what you want from my post.

I will repeat it with the emphasis on ''if you take both books at face value''it is impossible to be feminist and be true to your religion. Whether that be christian or muslim.

However any feminist would question teachings from their religious tomes. and a true feminist would question many sections of the bible/kkoran.

If they do question and find they dont like the answer, would they still have the same degree of faith ? I dont think so.

And what does it say about faith if you arent accepting everything you are told is the truth?

So you're a cafeteria Christian. You simply pick and choose whatever you like

well, umm, possibly. if thats the spin you want to put on it. far as being Christian, far as the bible, i prefer not to put a label on my faith, or read too much into a book.

Do you think faith is a good way to live your life? Do you think the bible is God's way of testing people's gullibility?

if you want me to answer those ?s, then answer mine. Why do i feel our conversation is so one sided? you bring up topics putting people on the spot and stay out of the spot yourself.

is your belief that we end when we die?, that we just cease to be? thats something i can't grasp. that no part of what we are exists any longer in any form. if i have it wrong, then what is the right way to see it? do tell

Nup ! definitely not that way inclined 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

That's easy. I don't know. If our existence is limited, it makes it precious and more valuable. If life is eternal, it makes it cheap. Why do you think religious people should waste their time in church or reading holy text when they should spend time making the most of their short time on Earth???

Why do you think God needs us to worship him? He doesn't. He doesn't need anything.

So, if there ia god, why bother to 'Create" something that is not needed?

Boredom? No that cant be the reason because that would mean that the "creation" would have had some purpose, but seeing that "god" needs nothing there is no purpose int the 'creation".

If creation has a purpose that negates the existence of "god"

how do you know what God does or doesn't need? why did God create us?, and why does he require our faith, if he don't need it?

No.

If anyone says they are Muslim or Christian, for example (your examples, Bob ) and yet denies the truth of any single lesson or dogma taught in the Koran or the Bible, then they cast doubt on the veracity of the whole of the rest of the texts therein.

One cannot cherry-pick. Either what is written is the word of god or it is not. It cannot be partly true because then it is partly false.

The three great main religions are patriarchal and misogynistic.

One could probably be a Buddhist and a feminist and find no contradiction, but even then I'm not so sure because to be a feminist is to be  dualistic.

There is absolutely no contradiction if one is an Atheist and a feminist, however. 🙂

(this is a general reply Bella and not directed at you specifically).

Isn't it interesting that when it comes to the Bible, Christians feel they can pick and choose depending on the context, culture and interpretation.

But when it comes to the Koran, apparently we Christians don't believe Muslims can do the same.

A little one sided wouldn't you say?

What a load of merde. Show me devout muslims who follow the Koran as they are supposed to. Here are but a few "owners' manual" rules that seem to have been relaxed and we raise no objections or eyebrows

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)

"Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it." (Surah 2:216)

Just two of the many rules that seem to have been brushed aside. ISIS is one of just a few groups that adheres to the Koran.

You are correct when you say Christians cherry-pick their rules just like other alleged religions and none of it is challenged.

So your God is needy? What does it say about your character if you need to create something to worship you? Would you worship someone like that?
Your last point doesn't make sense. If he exist, faith would not be required.
