just little bowls to put your mustards and sauces etc in for on the dinner table?
I've got a white dinner set with gold edges, and trying to find matching dishes etc - I just know them as ramekins, but is there a special name?
Thanks

@freddie*rooster wrote:No, and to clean silver of tarnish, just put some aluminium foil in your sink sprinkle some washing powder over the tarnished item and pour enough boiling water to cover, allow to sit for about 5mins, wipe dry with a a cloth.
Tarnish gone.
LOL - I make the kids use gumption!
but the KPs used to do it all in the huge big brat pans and add foil, I never knew what they added to the water though, was probably washing detergent like you say.

Gumption is too abrasive.

If you want to serve gravy or custard or other liquids in individual containers try looking for small jugs....milk or cream jugs from the well known manufacturers. Seach for "sugars and creamers". That will also give you the small individual bowls and as they are made by the "posh" china manufacturers you may just get them to match your dinner set.

hhmm "mustard spoon" seemed to have a few but pretty expensiveThis'll be the first time Mum has been at my house in 15 years (and if I let the pups in, it may be another 15 before she comes again LOL), so $30 per spoon is a tad on the "I don't wanna go there" side LOL
But I have bought an entire 16 piece dinner set and all the serving duishes and jugs, tea pots and platters and stuff to match etc, so I don't want to spoil all that cos I cheaped out by not having the right spoons and cutlery etc iykwim. and proper table linen and napkin rings and everything (I got the lady at Myer to set it all up etc, but they had no matching condiment bowls etc
no matching serviette holder though
it just needs to be right, cos she will find fault with the smallest thing.
OP, May I offer you some advice โ and Iโm not having go at you I mean it iabsolutely sincerely and hope it may help, not only to you but anyone else who may be in a similar predicament this Christmas;
STOP!
Take a deep breath.
Ask yourself, โWhy am I doing this?
If your mother is the kind of person your posts suggest, then trying to win her approval is a waste of time. The brutal truth is โit ainโt going to happen. She hasnโt simply set the bar too high, she has set it to infinity โ and if you are honest with yourself I think you know that.
Judging from the amount of food you are serving, I gather it is going to be quite a large dinner party; so; forget about your mother and focus on all the other guests. What is required to make the occasion a special one for them? I bet it doesnโt include perfectly matching tableware, faultless presentation, or elaborate, gourmet cooking.
To be blunt, if you waste so much energy and angst on someone you know is not going to appreciate it - someone whom, I suspect, you donโt even like very much - you run a real risk of stressing and intimidating the people you do care about and who really care about you. Is it worth it?

totally, she-el.
Is there a special name for a ramekin?
Yes. It's RAMEKIN.

Because they don't exist ? ( as you pointed out my*fp, but they were used as a point to try & put you down).

For a silver cleaner, I thought it was alum foil in a dish (shiny side out) add boiling water and baking soda mixed. Which froths & bubbles up.
Freddie - do you use washing powder (wash machine powder?).

Yes I do A3, same process as you explained but with a sprinkle of washing powder. It works a treat.
