The owner of a property's address?
I know the name of the person, and I also know he lives in QLD.

Isn't the owners name and contact on the lease you signed.
Go to your local council. They have the names of registered property owners in the area they cover.
No only his name.

on what you said here...
When you list a property with an agent they usually have exclusive rights to the sale of the property for 3 months or whatever some other set length of time.
The vendor would sign the contract and agree to those conditions. The conditions would expire at the end of the set term.
but after thinking about, if the sale term has expired to whatever time (lets say 3 months) you agreed on, and it hasnt sold, if it does get sold elsewhere.. the agents can still lay claim to a commission fee which i think is within 6 months after that 3 month contact.
Not sure if that is correct....not in Queensland anyway.
There are 3 options .....exclusive agency (one agency only), one that allows shared commission with another agent ( I think it's called a conjunction), and an open listing (can be listed with numerous agents).
When you sign a selling agreement you opt for what type of contract you want. With an exclusive agency, I think there is 3 months before you can change agents OR you take it off the market and put an ad in the public notices that it has been removed from sale. From memory, I think it is 3 weeks before you can list it again.

If the vendors have the house as an open listing then they can sell privately if they want to without paying commission and would probably jump at the chance and drop the price 50% or so of the commission amount.
If at any time you have discussed purchasing the house with the RE and they have approached the vendor on your behalf, they are entitled to the commission so nothing gained.
As far as who's who, any RE agent could find this out, however finding one who would is another challenge.
Council can tell you however they will probably require a reason.
If you are friends with the neighbours maybe you could ask them to see council and say that they need to talk to the owners about a fence or the like.
Just my 2c for what it is worth.
CM, we haven't met the neighbour's on either side, but the 2 units behind this one are owned by elderly ladies who haven't had anything to do with the owner of this place.

Crikey, that has crossed my mind as well. They actually done an appraisal about a fortnight ago, continually telling me oh the owners isn't selling 😉 I don't believe them, that's why my interest.
That's cool freddie, I just did think it was something worth thinking about, especially as you have now confirmed the RE are possibly aware of the property for sale, though it could just be for insurance purposes.
Best of luck with it all.

Just give it a shot Freddie, we've got a rental property and there's no obligation to the agent. as far as sale of the property to the agents who leased it out for us. Only our names are on the lease, no contact details.

I based my assumption on the fact he had previously tried to sell, the appraisal was a bit wishy washy, not what I would have expected. It only involved a quick look and a tick and cross questionaire type form he completed.

occasionally i'll ask for an appraisal just out of curiosity with no intentions of selling, and its free

Freddie, is the property part of a Body Corporate? If so, you could find out through them, through the little old ladies....if they own their units.
