What are our rights when it's illegal to not vote ? We are threatened with a fine if we don't and a driver's license suspension if we don't pay the fine. That reminds me of a dictatorship. When I don't like No GST Liberals and No Carbon Tax Labor or the minor parties who give their votes to them I refuse to vote. It isn't like I've never voted.

And Joz do u think if the libs get in they will remove that tax? My electricity bill has actually gone down since it's been introduced. go figure.
Julia Gillard has lied about there will be no tax on carbon while she leads the federal government?!
Stoopid tax anyway, She is a disgrace!
Havent heard Liberals policy as yet but i'll probably end up voting for them.

Find a party that actually deserve to be voted in.

Actually, it is not illegal not to vote. No one can make you vote - but you do have to attend a polling booth and have your name crossed off the list. What you do with the ballot paper then is entirely up to you. You can even walk straight up to the box and put an obviously unused ballot paper in it and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Having said that, I don't see the point in being a donkey either?:|

I know about that - I've assumed it isn't necessary to explain everything. You receive a fine if your name isn't marked off. To simplify it why vote for people who argue with and insult each other ?

I am always disgusted when people do not cherish their vote....
not that long ago women and Aboriginal's were not allowed to vote... people in other countries die in an effort to be able to vote..... women in some countries are still not allowed to vote and if they do get to vote they must vote the way of their husbands....
It is a right that we are allowed to vote... not some token that the government gives us but a right that people fought for and died for....
If you feel that you can just not care and give a donkey vote or just pay a fine you are disrespecting the the fight that was taken on by those before us.
Crystal has done the right thing and said she does not know who to vote for.... rather than just sit on the sideline and waste her vote she is looking for the best option....
But if she votes for Gillard I can no longer talk to her... :_|
lol

I don't think voting should be compulsory either.
Other countries don't have compulsory voting and those countries (for example, UK, US, Canada, NZ) haven't fallen over nor would a Govt (in a democracy) take away theircitizens right to vote because a low minority of people don't want to vote.
The right to vote is still there. People should have the choice whether they exercise their right to vote or not.
