It's no good telling my Mum this stuff over the phone. She WONT get it.
She will need someone to tell her step by step, or better yet, someone to actually do it for her.

awww thanks! She is determined to figure it out all by herself, although I am not hopeful 😐 It took her over 30min to log onto facebook the other day, she just doesn't fire up in the thinking dept like other ppl.
I may just take you up on the offer if she really can't do it ♥
just let me know if you need me 🙂

Does anyone know if/how I can get a Kindle book that says it is not available in Aus? see here
Having watched "Desert Flower", the autobiographical story of Waris Dirie, on TV last night I am keen to read that and other books she has written but they don't seem to be available here. 😞
Any ideas?

As far as I know you can't, unless you change your address to a US one, but then I've read somewhere about people doing that, and Amazon found out and they were 'blocked' for a time.
Also, if they have your credit card details, that is also a giveaway that you are from Australia. [they can tell somehow].
Only thing I can suggest is to google it, and try to find the books you are after in PDF format and then use a program to transfer it to the Kindle format. Or just get them in the PDF format and read on your computer.
Someone else might be able to help more, or else you can try the Whirlpool forums, there is lots of Kindle advice on there.

This is what I found from the Whirlpool forums.
"Leading on from the above question – there are a few titles I've noticed are not available in the Australian store that I want. Is there any way I can access the U.S. store, for example, and purchase/download off that? (this is more a general question).
Basically you need to "pretend" you are a bona fide US customer so that you can buy from the US catalog. To do this you need to change your "Your Country" setting on the "Manage Your Kindle" page to "United States". Then you need to add a real US address to your Kindle account and make it your active address so that you can do a 1-click purchase associated with that address.
If you have a friend/relative in the US and can add their address, then fine, but if not most people just Google the address of (say) a hotel or a golf club etc. Nothing needs to be mailed to this address, so the actual address is unimportant – it just needs to be real not fictional.
Finally you go to the Amazon e-book site, and make sure that while browsing, the "Your Country or Region" setting in the top left of the page shows "United States" not "Australia". If it's wrong, change it in the drop-down box (and you may need to log out to do this). Then you order the book you want, download it to your PC (i.e. don't use whispernet to grab it) and transfer it to your Kindle via USB cable.
Now the warnings! Have a read through the first few pages of the "Amazon Kindle 3 (Part 2)" thread to see what happens to most people. It's possible that you will receive an email saying that Amazon have noticed you've been a naughty boy/girl and have blocked you from ordering from the US catalog in the future. This will PROBABLY only stay in force for a few days, maybe a week or two, and you will find one day that things are unlocked again.
"Some people have changed their home address to a dummy US one (some change it back afterwards while some do not) to make it look like they are an american travelling and have been able to use the US store. The consequences are either no consequences or an e-mail from amazon telling you not to do it again. For those who do it again (or continue to) the consequences could be another e-mail, a 5-7 day ban from the US store or an indefinite ban from the US store. Some people have never got the e-mail and used the US store for a long period while others get found out on the first attempt."

You've got to wonder why a Kindle version isn't available worldwide, it just doesn't make sense. ?:|

Maybe I'll just get a hard copy from the library. Sounds a lot easier. I think I still remember how to read one of those :^O
