Kiva loan :)

Aww my 14 year old son just happily paid for a Kiva loan out of his own money. I suggested it to him after showing him the one I did last night and he didn't hesitate to say yes.

Just a little bit proud that he did that :-x

Here is a link to their finanicial and annual reports up to 2013. Information is also accessible via Charity Navigator if you want to log in to the site.

It seems many charities have highly paid ceo's some are getting 7 figure salaries, the CEO and President of Kiva are sitting on around $200,000 each. It would be nice to think we could get volunteers to run a multi million dollar charity but is it realistic? Just out of interest compare their salaries to other charities, have a look at Unicef ($521,820) or World Vision ($423,116), seems fairly comparable.

Anyway as much as I'd like to be earning that much, don't think I could deal with it, I'm happy to loan my money and let Kiva handle the rest. They are obviously doing a great job of it at the moment.

There are many good charities.  It takes people and money to run them.  That's the way it is.

No, I am not wrong. I'll bet the top guys are on six figure salaries PLUS PLUS PLUS.

I'm glad to see you finally realise these charities don't run themselves.

Yes it does.  From sponsorships and grants and donations to Kiva itself to keep it going.  Funds have never been taken from the loans to borrowers. That was explained yesterday

Re: Kiva loan :)

Wow - just logged into Kiva as I had received lots of repayments and saw that we had hit $10K in loans.

I did a couple of loans that don't show on total loans - so we have passed the 400 loans mark too Cat Very Happy

Doesn't fail to Impress me how a relatively small amount of dosh, can be recycled to maximise the benefits to so many who do not enjoy the benefits that many Australians enjoy.

That's beautiful 🙂  Well done everyone.

I have just $19 in my kitty but I think I can handle another one tomorrow.

Re: Kiva loan :)

I loaned from both of my accounts after last months repayments but went into check my account and found one had expired so I was refunded the money. I've just reloaned that amount to another.

It never ceases to amaze me how the loan totals and cash loaned gets a spikes every few months, you never know we could still reach that elusive 500 loans by our 3rd birthday 🙂

I am doing another 10 loans before the anniversary from repayments.

I have many loans being repaid in a short time.

And currently 411 loans completed.

Re: Kiva loan :)

Repayment time 🙂  I have enough for another loan tomorrow.

I love it when repayments come in, not because I have the money back but because the borrowers are making a success of their ventures and are able to make repayments.
