the one thing I do miss about not having a cat, is the mouse population seems to have grown.

our cat was a great mouser, and certainly kept the numbers down.

Re: Lionrose

Loving the thread ๐Ÿ˜„

As for skinks  pfft !!  How about a goanna ?? ๐Ÿ˜

Yes, a GOANNA !!

Last week OH was in town so I was having a lovely peaceful time reading etc when pandemonium broke out.  Fatcatruby had a goanna in the kitchen chasing it around and under the table, chairs, skittering all over the place.

I'm thinking, "please don't chase it into the bathroom"....so ofcourse that's what happened.  I had to catch both cats and put them in the loungeroom and shut the door because they wanted to "help", then grab a towel and the long bbq tongs to try and grab the thing !!

ruby had chased it into the corner of the room and it wasn't very happy and everytime I tried to grab it with the tongs, the tongs just slipped off !!  In the end I used the towel to sort of swish it and finally it turned and ran out into the kitchen but then went to the other end and under my computer desk then up the back of it amongst all the wires.  I had to grab it by the tail and pull it down then drag it out the door (while keeping the towel in front of me in case it tried to climb up me) !!

OH gets home a little later asking if I'd had a nice relaxing time reading ๐Ÿ˜

Both cats were kept amused for hours sniffing and smelling everywhere the goanna had been.

Re: Lionrose

LOL I love these cat story's.

When My old cat Myia was young and I had trained her to the cat door I found about 10 worms in the lounge by the cat door.

I watched and here was Myia out in the rain collecting worms, I dont know if she thought they were food or she was saving them.

Told my husband when he came home from sea, he did not believe it till it rained again and yes there was worms LOL

Re: Lionrose

OMG Soulart, a GOANNA ....  :^O

I know I shouldn't laugh, but it must have been something of a riot as you chased them all around ...  :^O ... and the tongs!, that must have been so funny to watch.

When we lived in the other house, we had a blue tongued lizard that lived in the back yard, so we called him 'Derek', don't know why, he just looked like a 'Derek'.

For years, he came and went as he pleased, helping himself to the strawberries in season etc and we watched him grow into quite a big lizard.  He disappeared in the end, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching him visit and share our garden for that time.

Re: Lionrose

Here, out in the country, we have a visiting echidna from time to time, it's quite big, so we call him 'Hercules', but we don't know whether it's a male or female.

Re: Lionrose

Rose, that is just lovely to know that, I love Derek and hubby did too ..  :-x

When we visited WA, we drove quite way inland and in the middle of the road was a huge lizard (monitor?) so of course we stopped the car to have a look.  It just stood there like a big statue and I was amazed to see such a thing.

I wasn't sure whether it would bite but didn't think it would, so I actually got to touch it's head and it didn't move.

We got back in the car and beeped the horn and it took off like a rocket.  It had sort of spots and was just the most beautiful animal.
