Hi Rosie I always had trouble giving mine a pill until a vet nurse friend showed me and it worked well, the trick was to have a calm cat to start with, then position cat into its back and cover all legs contained with one arm and place fingers at sides of mouth to force it open, then with the free hand pop the pill in and then hold the mouth shut by putting one finger over the nose and another under the lower jaw and there natural reaction is to swallow. pill gone and one surpised cat
I think giving a dog medicine would be easier, they do have teeth, but no needle claws. I give one of my dogs a liquid pain killer if she is limping (arthritis). Poor girl sees me coming with the syringe and clamps her jaw shut. Easy though, finger each side of the jaw to make her open, and then a quick squirt down the throat followed by me holding her jaw closed so she can't spit it out. If she only realised I am trying to help her it might be easier.
Dogs are easier Katy ,my old spaniel would just gobble anything down ,the little fella is a different story . Rosie kneel down on the floor ,grab Lillie as she walks past put all her legs under you ,then hold her jaws open and shove it down closing her mouth and rubbing her neck till she swallows it .. Then get ready to move ...fast ..very fast .
I can just see me holding down the cat from Hell, how do i get her four paws at the same time and have one hand free to put pill in a mouth full of Tiger teeth.
I think I will leave it to the Vet, i dont want to go away scarred ๐
good idea lion, one of ours is like that but the only way i can do it is by holding her quite firm at the back of the head then force her mouth open and put tablet in real quick.
