Living with the Enemy on SBS

I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS.  The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.

What did I learn?

- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).

- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).

- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.

- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.

- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.

- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.

- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?

- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

I think that the term "God" has two meanings ... one the concept of an eternal and powerful being: a God; the other is the name for THE God that people who are religious worship.

So, there are various Gods in Greek and Roman mythology, but within Catholicism, there is ONE God.

God doesn't have a name. Since Godhas no form or shape; is neither animal, vegetable nor mineral and is no more tangible than a thought or visible than the wind, God doesn't need to be named or labelled.. God is infinitte potential - the ability of anything and everything to exist or come into existance.

"Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'To God belongs 99 names, 100 minus 1, anyone who memorizes them will enter Paradise; He (God) is odd (odd number, he is the Only One), and He loves odd numbers (such as 99)"

Correct! Catholics only have ONE God, the Catholic God.

No, God is not his name, God is his title.

I know a guy who is a Medical Doctor (his title) - his name is not Doctor .....so, what's the Catholic God's name?

Katy, because of the doctrine of the holy trinity, Islam considers that Christians are polytheists; and do not worship the one and only indivisble God (as they do)

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

I'll give you a clue. In that document that I just read (from the link provided), the writer says that they (Catholic Church) have tons of old scrolls. In those old scrolls God's name will appear hundreds of times.

When the scribes copied those scrolls they were afraid to say or write that name, so they substituted "God", "Lord" etc for that name.

That's why in most modern Bibles the name has been left out - except for the original King James which only quoted it once or twice-  and in their subsequent issues left it outentirely.

Graeme knows it.

Don't know, don't care.  I think we'd all be a lot happier if everyone stopped fighting about religious nonsense.

Back on topic you lot !

Man Tongue

I watched the show a couple of days ago and I found the so-called Aussie bloke rude, boorish and basically a dimwit.  His carry-on about Halal food was embarrassing.

He had an agenda and he wasn't going to compromise it for anyone.   A couple of lip-service comments towards the end didn't redeem his ignorance.  His hosts, on the other hand, were kind and compassionate and showed him up to be the buffon he is (well he showed himself up, his hosts were too well mannered to do that).

Anyway, I would think that, being a leftie apologist Man Surprised

Incorrect  ..... In this prayer, (which is not only used in the Catholic Church), the reference is not to the Roman Catholic Church ( and some Churches say Christian)

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Re: Living with the Enemy on SBS

lol, back on topic, I had cause to be in a situation today where a school principal extended his hand to my female companion, he used the handshake as a domineering and intimidating use of his position.

I did not extend my hand and he quickly looked away, did not extend his hand to me. He continued to intimidate her throughout the interview................. and turned his chair so he didn't have to make eye contact with me, even when I spoke.

His actions will be his undoing.
