I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS. The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.
What did I learn?
- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).
- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).
- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.
- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.
- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.
- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.
- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?
- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Why on earth would anyone, Catholic or otherwise, feel it necessary to give God a name - unless of course they are trying to create an image of "him" in their own likeness.
it's not a matter of anyone giving him a name - he already HAS a name.
and PLEASE ... let's not get stuck on HE /SHE etc

I'm not stuck on the HE/SHEaspect I'm stuck on the absurdity of trying to ascribe a gender OF ANY KIND to something which has no physical form - human or otherwise - and obviously no gender WHATSOEVER.

Catholicism isn't a religion, it's a denomination ..... Christianity is a religion
Back to where you were ....

Catholics represent one particular denomination of Christianity, so do Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses; and to assume they all have exactly the same beliefs and follow exactly the same rules would be demonsrably ridiculous.
So we do we find it so hard to get our heads round the concept that within Islam there are also different denominations that do not all have exactly the same beliefs or follow exactly the same rules?

Exactly ..... The core belief in the Anglican church is pretty much the same but each diocese is administered under it's own Bishop. Some dioceses say Mass, some don't, some encourage women priests, some don't, some wear vestments, some don't etc etc ..... I am assuming that Islam is the same

as I have said MANY times - you are correct there is NO GENDER in the spirit world - but I think to call God "It" would be a trifle disrespectful.

it has to contain halal certified gelatine.
what does that mean? the animal that it came from
had to be ritually slaughtered.
Cadbury's Old Gold Dark Chocolate does not contain gelatine. It contains nothing from an animal.
Therefore no sacrifices to the Gods. No prayers or blessings made prior to packaging.Yet it is halal because this assures Muslims that they are able to eat it.
So how does UFOs justify his comment that I will go to hell for eating it because apparently I have worshipped another God?
That is the one and only question I have been asking to be answered clearly.

Works well in theory 😞 Sadly there will always be an element of animal cruelty, no matter what religion is involved.
Religion has little do with it.
In fact, halal meat is possibly the most humane way to kill an animal when you think about the reality. Islam states that the animal needs to be killed instantly as it isn't halal unless it feels no pain. So they stun it and kill it immediately. The hygiene and tools used are also very specific (and mostly common sense).
But in general, although other animals are also stunned prior to killing, for most slaughters there is no requirement to kill the animal instantly. So most animals in an abbotoir (sp??) can lay stunned for as long as necessary while they wait for their turn and then they can be hacked at any old way until the job is done and the animal is dead.
The other thing worth noting is that Muslims eat very little meat generally as they have a strong fruit and veg diet. And of course their population numbers are insignificant compared to the rest of the (heavy meat eating) Australian population..
So taking ALL of that into account, we are talking about a VERY small amount of animals that are being killed in a halal was but a VAST majority of animals that are being slaughtered in a way that probably would appear less humane if a video was turned on.

My cadbury chocolate packet has no symbols on it. No kosher, halal or heart tick.
